Any keen bird feeders out there?

Hi all, I haven't posted on here for a while, just been catching up reading the posts. About the greedy starlings, well since I stopped buying fat balls, they don't come to my feeders any more, I got sick of them arriving as a large group, and scaring all the smaller birds away, so I just buy sunflower hearts now. We get a lot of goldfinches here which I love, robins, blue tits, great tits, usual sparrows and blackbirds and the odd bullfinch which is a real treat. We are also seeing lots of swallows, swifts and house martins down our lane, I love to see them in flight, swooping and diving catching insects. Forgot to mention chaffinches above. We are spoilt here.0

Common redpoll I'd say0

Common redpoll I'd sayI'd go the the lesser as this is in fact more "common" than the common or mealy redpoll in the UK
Thanks to you both - after looking at them both online I'm inclined to go with 'lesser' too. The other one has too much lighter feathers.
Whatever it is I'm chuffed it's here.0 -
I sent the photo to a member of the local birdwatching group this morning and he's confirmed it is a Lesser Redpoll.
On another note, I think that swallows have eggs in the old nest in the corner of my back garden steading. The entrance to it is at right angles and very close to the back door so every time I step outside two swallows start warning cries and dive-bomb me! I can't see anything in the nest as it's too high up and I don't want to send them into a frenzy by getting the ladder out.0 -
Hi
I use County Wide (no grow) bird seed for the feeders in my garden and at £20 for 15Kg I find it reasonable value as well but I am willing to switch if there are other bird seeds available at a cheeper price.
Not that I grudge it too much as the birds seem to like it, there is virtually no waste and I get my enjoyment watching both the birds at the feeders and the ground feeders collecting up the overspill.0 -
