With one ABS sensor cut and taped away, I'd expect more problems than just traction control "disabled". But you talk about a sensor on the brake "res". Is this brake "reservoir"? They sometimes have a float in them to warn of low brake fluid, that's the only sensor I can think of on them.

You need to tell us what kind of car it is, and any systems it SHOULD have, without that it's useless speculating. As it is, the car could have:
ABS (3 or 4 channel systems of various complexity)
Traction Control - Basic wheel spin control by throttling back the engine when wheelspin is detected
Advanced traction control: Through application of brakes to individual wheels if wheel overspeed is detected.
Stability control: Complicated system whereby individual wheel speeds are monitored and compared to data tables, complete with steering and yaw sensors to work out if individual wheels are sliding or just spinning. It can then use a combination of throttle and brakes to bring wheel speeds under control or even assist the car around corners.

The thing that links all of these systems is the ability, generally via ABS sensors, to measure wheel speed very accurately and compare it to what is expected, given the speed of the vehicle and information from the other wheels.

Get back to us when you know more.

You jest, but the most unpredictably tail happy I've ever know a car to be was when it had one failed damper at the rear. Right hand bends were fine, left hand bends the rear tried to overtake the front every time!
