Thanks for the advice. Not sure who I go to get this sorted. We moved from the original company that gave us gas to EDF but just realised they are only providing electricity to us and the original company informed me they are not supplying me when I ask. Not got a clue where to go :-(

    You were told in post#2.

Otherwise google is your friend. ;)

New builds are rarely actually registered with a gas supplier and the onus is on op to have registered with one, It is important that is down asap for lots of reasons not least that eventually you will be cut off as the transporter is not getting paid to maintain the pipes, no metering company is responsible for maintaining meter, and in the case of gas emergency it will be capped as no emergency repair contract for the meter either,

I've never known a new build yet (built by a builder/developer) that isn't registered with a supplier. Any reasonable builder/developer will take meter readings and tell you who the existing supplier is as part of the hand over pack.

If it's not registered, it's probably not connected, so how is a builder/developer supposed to test it (e.g. boiler) before handover???

If it is connected, how pays for the builder's/developers usage if it's not registered???
If you know a legal way to get free gas, please let me know and I will pass it onto the main developers - it's save them £millions
  • I had a similar problem with a new build with the electricity meter which wasn't registered, but we were still receiving electricity. I just left it. It took 3 years, but eventually United Utilities turned up a the door demanding I sort out a supplier or they'd disconnect me. After which I had a fabulous 4 months trying to get myself a supplier.

I didn't get billed for the 3 years though, just for the meter reading I supplied at the start of the process of getting a supplier sorted out.

Seeing as you have a gas supply and presumably supply readings, I would imagine the electricity meter is near the gas meter? If not and you live in a flat, the management company will know where the meters are. If in a house, the builders should know.

If the gas supply is listed as "shipperless" with national grid then until you instruct a supplier to take over the supply you will not be charged for any gas used. however, "shipperless" sites are very rare nowadays

partially correct, although the transporter can bill. Also its likely to be an IGT if newbuild under a dummy postcode
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
