never ever just get one quote!! how do you know if you're being ripped off?
you might get another quote for several thousand cheaper!0 -
We had 11 windows, French doors with a side panel, and a composite front door fitted 18mths ago with a Fensa guarantee (whatever good that is) for £4500. It was a friend of a friend and he said he would of charged someone else around £6000.. I'd say that quote was overprice by a few thousand.. we are in London by the way.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

With the nationals, as a rule of thumb you need to halve the first quote. Local independents are far more likely to quote a sensible price first time. Without at least one more quote elsewhere, you'll never know.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thank you all. I had head aches all night thinking about it. He said he came to make the deal and his prices were very competitive when I said I will get another quote. He made me sign saying I can always change my mind in 7 days. I found a company who is open sundays. So might go down with my measurements. x0

Either way at this point if I were you I would cancel the order....
That way you can take your time to get some more quotes and if indeed the original quote is still good compared to the new quotes then you can return to it...companies want business from customers annd there is no point going into something that you are not 100% happy and confident about.
Your quote does seem expensive or at least on the high side IMO....and you may find that there is more hard sell and a possible further price reduction at the point you ask to cancel the contract.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Make sure you cancel properly -- in writing with a delivery receipt.
I hate the way these people work. I once needed one window replacing. I made it clear I just wanted a quote and no messing about. First question was why my wife wasn't there. I just told him to go.Je suis sabot...0 -

No, you chose to sign of your own free will. There was no requirement to so so-the offer would still be there next week, regardless of what the agent might say. Have you actually checked the cancellation terms small print?.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I had a national co out for a quote and the whole time salesman was there he spoke to my other half. I even said to him talk to me as its my house and I am paying for these windows. and he carried on talking to OH. He did not get the job cos of the price but I did tell him he was rude.
blimmin heck nowadays if I want a quote for owt the OH cant fix I tell them on the phone if your sales rep wont talk to me despite whoever else is in the house you wont get the job even if its the best price:rotfl:63 mortgage payments to go.

How much!?!!? Blimey! When we renovated this place we got 2 composite doors and 14 windows for £4800, bought trade and had a local chap to fit them for us. Definitely cancel that order & shop around.
If you want the company name PM me and I'll be happy to tell you x0 -
I would be very suspicious of any installer who reduced a price from £14000 to £10000. To me it would indicate that they were trying it on. You expect these sort of tactics from the nationals but not from the locals. Cancel and get other quotes, it is nonsense for the salesman to quote prices from other companies.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
