With the type of walls you have we would generally strip back anyway, its impossible to repair the boards after removing the existing tiles/paint so easier to remove and reframe. You can generally leave the plasterboard in place on the opposite side of the bathroom and then frame, use expanding foam plasterboard adhesive to fix existing plasterboard to me frame to save on new decoration

problem with that is that I cannot get past step 1. Tried firefox, chrome and IE, just does not scroll. Either a problem with my PC or the website.
Will mail them and see what they say. Thanks.0 -
The geberit rail system requires only a few fixing points, it can be fitted into metal stud partition walls at 600 centres and this type of wall is no worse than a paragon
What do I know, only fitted about 130+ of these frames in the last 6-7 yrs with no failures
I didn't say the system was rubbish, but it still has to obey the laws of physics and your comments about how the load applies itself to the wall is not all vertical, it is still a lever regardless of how it is fastened.
Glad the system you fit works for you.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
If you can remove the chipboard then do it, 25mm marine ply impact gunned to the joists. Stick some extra 4x2 on all board edges to support and you will have zero problems with movement
Exactly, and as the Op asked, yes, it is worth doing if it achieves the result you are wanting,;)
Kuly, you are making the savings by DIY, so now just invest a little more time:T:TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Cheers folks.
Do the boards have to be nailed? don't have an impact gun :-) although I guess I could hire one.
Can I not screw them down or will they not hold as good as nails? Just that screws are much easier to remove if ever required. Getting nails out is a pain as I am learning now. Even more so if they are embedded into the board.
Do I also need to leave 1 or 2 mm gap between the boards for expansion? Would you recommend tanking the floor in that case?0 -
Always butt the boards up, screw gun will work just as good . For 25mm plywood use 70mm screwsHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0

Thanks Andyhop.
Just re-read your post about the geberit system wall and the fact it can be installed on metal stud partition walls. Can you recommend which studs I should go for if I go down this route?0 -
I would go for 4x2 timbers at 400mm centres, metal stud walls are a little flimsy
Are you planning on having a flat wall or a bulkhead to house the frame?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Cheers. Planning to go flat to maximise minimalist look.0

Depending on the frame you may need to step up to 5x2. Presume soil pipe is dropping straight into floor.?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0
