Wall Hung Toilet

Hi,

Was quoted 16k to refit my bathroom so thought I would have a go myself instead.

I have managed to rip everything out and remove all the tiles from the walls. I want to fit a wall hung pan and basin, but unfortunately, the only wall I have available is a paramount plaster board wall!!! I was thinking of removing the wall and installing 2x6 stud wall but then when I had a look at the geberit frames, it says "for fitting in between a load bearing stud wall".

My wall is obviously not load bearing but will I still be able to install a geberit frame between the studs? IF not I guess I would have to revert to floor standing which I really would not want to do.

Many thanks for your advice in advance.

Can you create a false bulkhead in front of the wall?

Most of the weight is transfered down, if a rail can be fitted end to end of the room this would support the top

Your other option would also work, paragon walls as are dreadful !!

16K sounds a lot. My neighbour across the road had his bathroom refitted for ~6K plus furniture, and the workmanship is first rate. It is a smallish room, but fully tiled, new toilet, probably move the soil pipe, new both shower, and basin. I could easily give you his details in a PM since we live 15 miles away from you. The workmanship is better than my bathroom, done by a local person 18 months ago.

Hi and thanks for your replies.
Hi Andyhop, unfortunately there is a door frame on one side so unable to do that. Had the night to sleep on it so may go floor standing now. Will save time and money and I'll sleep sounder as I will never have to worry about it falling off. :-)

Hi Leif, if you don't mind that would be great. Much appreciated.

No, I'm afraid it isn't, most is a lever motion ('scuse pun), against the wall, ie, you are effectively trying to rip the pan away from the wall, that's the issue.

If you do what you are proposing, and restud in 6x2 timber, it does become a load bearing wall, if only when it is sat on.
The point is the studding has to be well fitted and anchored to the roof and floor
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    Hi Cyclonebri1,

If I was sat on the thing then yes, I guess so ;)

OK. The floor joist will run 90 degree to the stud frame. As for the roof, I'm not sure. I need to take a look in the loft to check. May need to put noggins between rafters to support wall. Do you think its too much effort for what I am increasingly thinking is of little benefit and expense or indeed possible?

I am more and more thinking maybe back to wall toilet and basin with full pedestal now :-(

While I am here, our house has chip board on the floors. Was thinking of ripping it up and replacing with 25mm ply. Any tips etc? Maybe should start a new thread about that one.

The geberit rail system requires only a few fixing points, it can be fitted into metal stud partition walls at 600 centres and this type of wall is no worse than a paragon

What do I know, only fitted about 130+ of these frames in the last 6-7 yrs with no failures

If you can remove the chipboard then do it, 25mm marine ply impact gunned to the joists. Stick some extra 4x2 on all board edges to support and you will have zero problems with movement

Now I'm getting confused. Paragon or Paramount?
Anyhoos Andyhop, I think I can get the chipborad off, even though its nailed and glued!!! Cut around the edges of the joints and only realised it was glued when I tried to lift it :-(

Now the geberit rail system is something else on the specs of the frames. It says "for installation in a full height duofix system wall" or something to that effect. Is that what you are referring to? What are these system walls and are they easy to fit. Did try and google but no luck with any decent results for once!
