Selling a car number plate - the hows and whys .. and getting a valuation

Hello
I have a car that is now worth not very much at all ... a few hundred pounds or therabouts.
It is on its original licence / registration / number plate which happens to be an unusual and hopefully 'of value' one.

I would like to find its value and sell it if it proves worthwhile.

How can I get a valuation?

Where / how is the best way to sell?

How do I go about this with DVLA so that I can sell my plate and acquire a new (replacement) one for my car?

Many thanks.

What valuation? M2 DML is worth £400 if you want to sell it now. If you can find the right buyer you might get £1,500 - £2,000.

(The example I have used is fictitious closely based on one that a friend was interested in selling this week)

I'm not sure what you mean?
Those values have a large range - where are you getting the figures from?

If you want a broker to buy the number he will give £400. If you want to leave it with him he will sell for commission and you might get £1,500-£2,000. NB The might.

Of course the figures are wide, unless you find someone daft enough to pay £2k then the value is minimal, in this case £400, which I thought was quite generous.

These figures are what a friend was quoted this week.

The only plates that have any real value (with a few exceptions) are the ones that do not have year letters and the shorter the better.

My reg number was valued at £800, but after three years and repeated price reduction it was scrapped with the car. A previous number took 18 months to sell. A "valuation" is a suggested selling price. Its worth what someone will pay for it. Ask registration selling companies for guide prices and choose one if you want to try to sell it. Companies may buy it at a low price too sell on but don't expect it to sell. The company will handle the sale.

It is worth what someone will pay.

For instance, if it is PEN 15 or BO08 IES I'll give you £500 now :D

Otherwise you can put it on retention for £155 for 3 years.

I'm not sure about the value side or your registration, but if you want to retain it you will need to complete a V317 which is available to download online.

Complete, sections 2 & 4 to retain, you will need to pay either £105 for 1 year, £130 for 2 years or £155 for 3 years. You will need to include the V5 (logbook) & current MOT and send to DVLA, Swansea.

The transfer fee is already included in the above price, so if & when somebody buys the registration they will not have to pay to transfer.

It would help of course if we knew what the number actually is.

    Or even the format.

    ABC 123

    AB 1234

    ABC 123A

Or just what is so unusual about it?

I thought of posting it but I didn't know if it was okay (from a safety / security point of view) to do so.

    it is:
