Thanks Sylvia, the Edinburgh one that has free parking if we can. The dates we can use are Jan - Middle March I think and they won't be in touch until comp finishes. Will probably add it to something else when the time comes. Trying to cut down on breaks at the moment as car milage is going through the roof. Glenrothes next Sunday and then nothing else booked :eek:Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

Peeing it down and touches of thunder/lightning.
Part way into 'Les Miserables' - bit long but will see how film goes.
Not sure if another egg bacon chips affair / mince stew / grilled chicken / omelette.
Fancied making a bacon quiche but not sure if can be bothered.

Would think so ILC.
We are having Tesco Ready Meal Currys with added chicken! I buy two meals and fry and add the chicken and there is enough for 3 then and not quite as unhealthy.:DMar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

Sheils - not inspired with a chef (another away) in the house? :rotfl:
That's what I though as the pastry might go soggy and the bacon chewy.
What are your sons specialities - starters / mains / deserts / cuisine style ?
Shop bought quiche can taste like antiseptic.0 -
DS3 is at a Chef's Cooking Exhibition at a Food Fair this afternoon. His bosses treat for them all! Not sure what he regards as his specialities. He only cooks for us occasionally and we tell him what we want. He does nice pasta dishes for himself sometimes.
His older brother specialises in desserts to die for (my sort of thing) I read his reviews from the hotel up north where he was head chef and his desserts were raved about. He is working in a Fish restaurant in Sydney now so maybe he will get enthusiastic about that.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

I have a tried and much trusted quiche recipe - used for years though obviously I leave bacon out - you can add or take away ingredients as you please:
Actually Alf has an admission - this recipe is from childrens cook book bought many years ago for my kids to useI still use it to this day cos the various receipes are a delight and sooo easy!!! The quiche has been a family favourite for years
INGREDIENTS:
Basic recipe for shortcrust pastry (can use bought)
Flour for rolling
2 rashers bacon (not pre cooked - small pieces will cook fine in quiche in oven)
2 tomatoes
2 eggs
1/2 pint milk (cream) whatever takes your fancy!
2 ounces cheddar cheese (though I usually go for 3-4 ounces to give it cheesy oooomph!
1 small onion
Salt and pepper
EQUIPMENT:
Rolling pin
Measuring jug
Sharp knife (under supervision :rotfl:)
Fork
20 cm (8 inch) ovenproof pie or flan dish
Chopping board
1. Oven on at Gas Mark 5 (electric 375F/190C)
2. Make/buy pastry - roll out and line flan dish
3. Skin 1 tomato, spear on fork, hold over hotplate or gas flame until it pops. (Under supervision). Peel off skin, thinly slice and lay over the base of the pastry
4. Finely chop small onion and sprinkle over the tomato
5. Remove rind from bacon and cut rashers into tiny pieces. Add these to the dish
6. Grate cheese and sprinkle over top of all other ingredients
7. Beat eggs into milk (or cream) and add salt and pepper.
8. Pour carefully over cheese and other ingredients
9. Bake for 30-40 mins or until set. Allow to cool slightly before serving
10. Decorate top with other tomato sliced thinly.
Lovely quiche - simples - enjoyxxxx
Ps - have done it with bacon for family - if I am doing smaller portions for meself I usually chuck some mushrooms in. xxxMILITARY WIVES CHOIRSHELP for HEROES0 -
ILUVCATS - have you tried the quiche from Sainsbury's chilled counter? We find them Ok although you can't beat home made.
SHEILS - It would be good to add to the break in Edinburgh next year. Is the next break next weekend the last one for this year then. Didn't you mention some time ago that you were going abroad next year?
Dried some of the washing but raining again now.
Jacket potato/cheese/beans for us tonight as can't be bothered to do anything more exciting, + Fred is getting it for me so I can get on.
SYLBIG THANKS TO ALL WHO POST THE COMPETITIONS0 -
AB - thanks for recipe.
Sylvia - not tried the deli flan
Sheils - do you or your sons have higher expectations when you eat out?
I guess you/they are more in tune with a potential short coming.0 -

It is the last booked break SylviaWaiting to see what the weather is like. Might do some last minute bargains to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle areas or The Lakes. Going to try not to go too far. Hopefully go abroad for a week once DD is 16 (May 9th). DS3 will be 18 on 11th May so will have to be here then. Still worries me leaving them on their own in case of any problems arising.
Well done getting Fred to cook. My DH does his share too.
Have had showers off and on all afternoon but washing has fared not too badly with most of it dry now.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media
