What actually is showing on your statement to make the balance £1.91.I closed my account with Halifax back in March and got a printed form confirming closure. It confirmed the balance is zero and the account is now closed. Account is closed on all three credit files.
About 2 weeks ago I got a debit card through the post for my closed account. Rang the bank and they said I had £1.xx in my account and it wasn't closed. Went into branch, the guy said it had never been closed because I had a balance in my account.
When I said it was showing as closed on my credit reports and I'd received confirmation of closure, it was clear he thought I was talking rubbish. My bank statement doesn't show any transactions, it just shows £1.91 as being the balance. £1.91 has basically come from nowhere, caused my account to reopen and the bank staff are denying it was ever closed!
There's nothing more concerning than being told "I don't know what happened" or them basically showing they don't know, even if they don't actually say it.0 -

Nothing. The statement I got on the day I closed my account shows a balance of £0, and the statement I got yesterday shows a balance of £1.91, but there has been no further transactions on the account.
I can't be bothered to go through everything in the statements and see if there's anything different, but I can say for sure that there hasn't been any transactions since I closed the account (at least, none that appear on my statement). What will your verse be?

Sorry but that is impossible - there must be a missing sheet with that refund/transaction on.0

The guy I spoke to at the branch suggested it was impossible that my account had been closed because I had a balance of £1.91 and had done for a long time.
Last time I went into the branch (before this), I owed them money and paid them £1.xx so that I could close my account. Got the confirmation through confirming balance is zero and account is closed.
I spoke to telephone banking about two weeks ago and requested a statement. Never turned up. That's why I went to the branch yesterday.
Noone seems to know what's going on!What will your verse be?

I have seen customers have similar confusion before, when I worked for Halifax ... what is the exact wording used on your 'closing statement' that tells you the account was closed?0

"Dear Mr X
Closure summary document
This letter confirms the closure of your account as requested.
What we've done
The following account held by you has been closed on 21st March 2013:
(details of account here)
The total closing balance of £0.00 for the above account was calculated as follows:
Current balance: £0.00
Closing balance: £0.00
What you need to do
Destroy cards, make alternative arrangements for payments etc.
Next steps
We'll send you a closing statement etc."
I don't see how it can be interpreted any other way and, like I say, it's showing as closed on all three credit files too. What will your verse be?

Ok, in that case I don't know!
I assumed as you said 'statement' you meant a normal bank statement, rather than the letter that you've quoted here.
But the letter is clear that the account has been closed. I'd withdraw the £1.91 and re-close the account if I were in your position.0
