or you could buy cpr call blocker £39.99

It is, IMO, not the best solution. There are better call blockers on the market.
  • I had a call last week from "00000000" (obviously a fake number), so I just answered and repeated the phrase "Penis 8" until they hung up :rotfl:

And it's not OFCOM you should complain to - they (allegedly) regulate telecommunications companies. If you're getting calls from a company that doesn't have your permission to call then you should complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) not OFCOM. NB. This doesn't protect you from overseas calls.
Amended it for you, fluff, hope you don't mind :D

THANKS all for your input. Here is Mk2. Is it OK?

1.Register free with Telephone Preference Service (TPS)
Call them 08450700707 or go to the TPS website.

2.Go ex-directory, phone 0800 800 150 working hours, you can have your number removed from the telephone directory only which means that someone can still get your number through directory enquiries or you can stop this as well.

3.Don't give your number to anyone who does not need it, on forms put a false number 01632 960878 is one such number used by TV companies etc. If you have to give your own number make sure you say you do not give permission for marketing calls from them or any other company.

4.Check who is calling with caller display on modern phones, this is free from BT and most phone companies.

5.Do you ever want calls from abroad? If not ask your phone company to bar them but be aware that family and friends will not be able to call you whilst abroad.

6.Consider buying a call blocker, or a BT 6500 phone to bar unwanted calls.

7.Phone Consumer Lifestyles and tell them to remove your number from their files phone 08000526871 and leave a message or 01923281700 is their office number.

8.If you do get a call, if asked do not phone back or press any buttons, just say no thank you and hang up, if you can make a note of the number report them to TPS, dial 1471 to get the number if you don't have a phone with caller display.

9.Report suspected scams to Action Fraud 03001232040
Report other problem calls such as silent calls to Ofcom 03001233000

10.If you buy something as the result of a cold call you will usually have seven days from delivery to return it and get a refund.

It looks fine to me but you might want to add something about the 'Hang up and call again' scam as detailed in this article on the MSE news page:

If you have to give your own number make sure you say you do not give permission for marketing calls from them or any other company.

Strangely enough (in my experience) more companies ignore this request than stick to it.

Problems with phones that block numbers is there is a limit of the number of user specified numbers that can be blocked. In the case of the BT 6500 its 10!!!!
    http://www.shop.bt.com/products/bt6500-nuisance-call-blocker---trio-8H3J.html

Alternatively if you there are specific numbers you want to block, you can block up to 10 numbers from getting through.
My phone blocks 30, and this filled up in no time. Example 0, 000000, 0000000 are all spoofed numbers and those would account for 30% of the blockable numbers on the BT 6500

    BT 6500 is worthless IMO.

I would just add that if it is a UK compamy that you have previously (perhaps unknowingly) given permission to contact you then find out who it is. Ask to be removed from their list - if they don't comply then you can complain and they may face a hefty fine, They are allowed up to 28 days.

Thanks again, So danny, what is this phone that blocks 30 numbers? I got the BT 6500 tip from the Which report posted by Coopdivi.
