The best way to stop unwanted calls is to invest in a system like Tru-Call
Registering with the TPS does reduce the number of UK cold-callers, but does nothing to reduce the international callers, both from a list or from automatic dialers
Agreed. We purchased TrueCall around 3 months ago and have had no problems with Telepests since then. The log shows we still get plenty of calls, but it is proving to be 100% effective at blocking them.0 -
Family member found this goes some way to stopping the calls.

Pay me £50 and I will register your number with the TPS.
And also sell your number to various other telesales, what do you mean you opted out, did you read the T&Cs which allows me to sell your details0 -
or you could buy cpr call blocker £39.99

The problem many people have is that they have answered these calls before and the number is then listed as valid.
The number is then touted round as valid and all sorts of everyone then calls.
My advice? Go ex-directory and then sign up to the Telephone Preference Service. You can register your mobile too.
On receiving a call, just tell them "I have signed up to the Telephone Preference Service and you have committed an offence by calling me".
Honestly, they put the 'phone down faster than I can. It's quite satisfying.
On receiving a call or a text, report it to the ICO.
The number of calls and spam texts should gradually reduce.
On signing up to anything either hard copy or online, look at the little tick boxes very carefully. They should give you the option to opt out of calls, emails or other correspondence.
If they don't, don't do business with them.
If you keep signing up for stuff, not reading the small print and not opting out, then you reap the rewards of your gullibility.
No deal is so good, that you give up your rights to privacy. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I had a rude cold caller today, apparently their company are 'in my area, doing energy efficiency surveys today' I simply replied 'Oh, sorry our house is currently up for sale' at which point he said 'give you a fiver for it' and hung up.
Obviously not the worst in the world but it pee'd me off and was unprofessional if nothing else. It was from a withheld number so I rang BT's main number and the nuisance calls dept gave me the number of the 'Call Tracking Service' who will trace the call and complain to the company on my behalf.0 -
I'm starting to love cold calls. I string them along for a while pretending to be interested and then when they ask for my postcode I give them SW1A 1AA. That comes up with Buckingham Palace0

So now I know what not to put, what should I put as well as TPS and Consumer Lifestyles?
Sorry for the late reply. I haven't been on MSE for a few days.
The Which? website has an excellent article on stopping cold calls.

I suggest you re-write this article to suit your church audience, but acknowledge your source perhaps with a link to the website.0
