Yes they are on the Sim card.

Now for the ME widget problem.

Sorry can't help you on the widget side
all i ever do is just drag widget on screen or drag to the bin to delete of screen

I took the default widget of so i can have 8 widget instead of 4
Also you can have folders which i have on my HS just drag one icon on to the other and it will make a folder with your 2 icons in there and then you can add more icons if you want.
