Ceramic disc..one for hot, one for cold. Cost of new tap vs. cost of new ceramic disc for hot side? Call Howdens for price of new tap. You could DIY repair or replacement.

Do you get hot water if you swivel the lever completely to the hot side (left) and lift it up?

    I just get cold water.
Thanks. I'm leaning to be in agreement that its the cartridge but can you clarify the following:

When you operate the hot in the kitchen without another tap being opened:

    1. Does it just run cold all the time and the boiler show no inclination to fire up at all?
    2. Does it just run cold for a short time whilst the pipework empties but the boiler does fire up and eventually you get hot?
    3. What is the difference in flow rate at the kitchen when hot only is opened and cold is flowing out of the kitchen tap and when you the open the utility room hot and kitchen hot together? Does it make any difference if you open utility first and kitchen second or kitchen first and utility second.

    Cheers

PS Is the isolating valve for the kitchgen hot fully open?

Is the kitchen mixer tap a combined swivel type or two separate knobs for hot and cold?
    Combined swivel type.

OP: another thought...does the tap have flexible tap connectors rather than copper tails? Sometimes these can be the culprit.flexible%20tap%20connectors.jpg

Flow rate of the kitchen tap reduces by about 50%
    (especially if turned on first)

If the flow rate of the hot water out of the tap is not sufficient enough, the boiler will not fire. This could be caused by a blockage through the hot water tap cartridge. Isolate the hot water supply to the kitchen tap and remove the hot water cartridge. If the cartridge is scaled up, you can try soaking it in vinegar overnight.

Sorry for delayed reply I have to suspect the cartridge or a blockage. Copper tails can't get restricted by compression or twisted which was another possibility.
