Oooooo really want to light my new woodburner!

Just looking at the grey miserable weather outside! Will it be cool enough to light my fire tonight after work, I wonder? It will be the first time since the installer commissioned it last week.

Seeing as you can only light small fires the first few times I'd say go for it.

Just moved my wood pile around waiting a new delivery and had new door seal put on yesterday and am gagging at the bit to light mine

I was told about only having small fires. Does that mean for example use a couple of logs then let it go out?

Nah, just keep it at the low end of a flue pipe thermometer. Have you got one of these?

    Then, tomorrow, let it blast.

Saying that, the weather is turning in the South and temps are scheduled to be mid 20's so I'd say save your wood and don't bother lighting it! Go outside for a chimenea instead!

Had mine on briefly a couple of days ago.
Sweep (power variety) disturbed some of the fire cement on the flue pipe.
Put some more on and it needed to cure, seemed teh easiest way to do it.

He also knocked my cowl off, which annoyed me as i specifically warned him about it.

Not sure i'm impressed with the "power" sweep having now seen it first hand.

Did he put it back on for you?

Only after i had a fairly intense argument with him.
Apparently he doesn't do "ladder work" anymore. Got to love NACS registered sweeps it seems.

I won't be using him again, only did as he was local and a recomendation.
I should have used Phil on here as intended to do.
  • Well I did light my stove. It went really well. Only thing, when I open the door to refuel I get smoke coming into the room. Am I doing something wrong?

It's probably just because the flue hasn't had time to warm through.

As G&D says above it is most likely the flue isn't fully warm, especially as today is quite gusty, well it is here anyway.

What sort of cowl is it? The spring loaded ones that just squeeze into the pot are not popular amongst sweeps! I always put a very small brush with a guide ball up first with them, and have the customer stand outside in the rain waiting to see when it arrives at the pot! Then you know how far you can go with proper brushes. Good cowls can be given a good clonk, which you can hear and feel down at the fireplace.
