Early upgrade?

My girlfriend has recently had a text from Phones4U to say that she is due for an early upgrade (think you can upgrade through them 3 months before contract ends).
It looks like she can get a slightly better deal through Carphone Warehouse and a little extra cashback as well - my question is can she upgrade to Carphone Warehouse early without having to pay Phones4U an exit fee?
She will be staying with the same network (O2) if that makes any difference.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Phones4u are notorious for this.
They do not do upgrades but give you a new contract and give you the cashback to pay off the remaining contract with O2. If your not savvy with it then it may cause problems.
Phone4U are a retailer so they would not need any exit fee.
Your contract is with O2 and it is their terms and conditions you would need to check before doing anything as you may end up with paying double bills for the next few months.
I used to work in this industry and it is best to speak to the service provider than the salesman looking to hit a target.
My personal advice is steer clear. O2 offer some of the best upgrades and you will find it seamless and easier if you wait until it is due for upgrading. Phone O2 customer services who will let you know when the contract ends and its usually 30 days before the end of the contract that you can get the option of upgrading.

Thanks for that, I've dug out the contract and its actually 17th September that the contract runs out (other half thought it was November) so we aren't far off 30 days now.
Looking at the phone and tariff she is looking at it actually seems cheaper to go through CPW (same monthly cost but £20 less for handset)0 -
Further to the above - I'm now trying to upgrade online through CPW but can't see anywhere where they actually ask for any details that link the current account with Phones4U with the new one. Is there anything in particular I should do?
I have tried calling but they close at 5pm on a Sunday so not having much luck at the moment!0 -
Phones 4 U are the retailer, they want you to upgrade though them to sell you another contract. You can go elsewhere for upgrades, even try going to O2 to see what deals they have.
If you like your phone, consider downgrading to a sim-only contract once the 17th September comes.0
