I just followed suit when I got home (till the pump broke and I took the hint).

Please don't buy anything yet. Get your bf established and only then consider whether you want to express. I've bf for 3 months now, my b00bs tell me when he's ready to feed. If I've got to express at different times I think it could be very uncomfy. But then again my life isn't that exciting and I'm never out for more than 3 hrs at a time, so feed before I go and when I get back.0

I BF my DD until she was 12.5 months then went to cows milk. I listened to a piece of advice saying if you really want to breastfeed don't buy any bottles etc.. Before baby is born. Establishing breastfeeding takes work and would be all too easy to reach for a bottle during those first few weeks.
At 8 weeks old we bought a Medela Swing pump, a microwave steriliser and TT closer to nature bottles. DD took EBM from the bottle but I couldnt be bothered to keep up the pumping so stopped. I then tried a couple months later and she refused completely. It took until she was about 8 months old to take a bottle of EBM.
If bottles of EBM are something you want to introduce, once you have got BF established you really need to keep up with the bottle too, else it's very likely your baby won't take one.
Good luck for the new baby.MFW £190,450/£141,1400 -
I went to the Baby show in London and there was a Medela stand. I got the Swing pump, a steriliser, food warmer and some other odd bits- can't remember how much it all was about £150 I think?
I pumped for Britain when I found out I was going back to work- I had bags and bags of the stuff in my freezer, then my LO stopped drinking it at 14 mths and switched to cow's milk so I donated it all!!! :rotfl:It was like panic buying!
I would echo what the others said don't get one just yet, but if you see a really good deal that you can't pass up I'd get it. I loved my Medela swing, it was fairly convenient and was the Which best buy, but that was over 2 years ago.
I did the same as acl2009 btw I gave her the odd bottle of ebm and she was fine then I just found it easier to feed direct then when I tried to give her a bottle she refused. I had to try for ages, with loads of different bottles, but she took a bottle again... eventually took almost 2 days!Got married 13/11/10

Breast milk is actually far from sterile, so you need to sterilise all bottles etc if you are going to express. Once expressed, it needs to be stored in a fridge or frozen. Sorry, I can't recommend any sterilisation units as it is too long since I had my children'Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.' Also I was told I only had to sterilise until they were 6 mths as by that age they are putting all sorts into their mouths. One thing I would say is it doesn't hurt to sterilise, the steriliser I had was easy just bung everything in and add 100 ml of water and just turn it on.
I used it until she was 6 mths and then I just used it as a storage unit for bottles!!Got married 13/11/10
