Hacked account with Orange

While abroad my Orange account was hacked, hacker ordered new phone and upgrade. Couldn't sort out while away as hacker had changed my password! On return, took 2 days of calls over a week to get any progress. Now, 3 weeks further on have progressed backward. Fortunately my 2 year contract ends tomorrow and I will be saying goodbye forever to Orange. I challenged them on their lack of service re the hacking and they responded with "You need to be more careful with how you dispose of your bills in your rubbish". I have paperless bills, as they well know, and my mothers maiden name does not appear on bills anyway. No apology or offer of compensation, only blame.
Does anyone have any advice to help me look for a new contract? Orange are now dead to me.!

To be honest there are a lot of ways you can get this information, lets face it once you tell someone something like mothers maiden name or date of birth, you can't really change it can you. Often little snippits can be put together to give a full profile on you, and if the fraudster had all the details Orange needed to reset the password then it's would be difficult for them to not think it was you.

Yes Orange can secure it better, but then folks would complain it takes too long to clear security.

Don't think any other network will be better security wise...

    Its ID theft not hacking.

When they say 'You need to be more careful with how you dispose of your bills...' They don't mean your Orange bills, they mean all your other bills that can be used to start a new acc.

If someone used your mothers maiden then the odds are its someone you know, you'd be surprised how often it is.
