How can my dad watch Rugby via BT Sports ?

My dad is currently with Sky and has all of Sky sports channel, b/band and phone with them.

He loves to watch Rugby, in particular the European games with Leicester. He also likes the golf and cricket so wants to keep the Sky sports channels. For info, he is out of contract with Sky.

I would be grateful if someone could answer the following questions :

1. What rugby games, if any, are Sky keeping for next season ?

2. Are BT Sports only showing the Aviva premiership games next season ?

3. If he wants the BT Sports package, am I correct in thinking that he will need to get BT b/band unlimited (and pay for it) and BT Sports will then be free.

4. I understand that once he has got BT b/band, he just has to give his Sky card number to BT and his Sky box will then show BT sports on his TV. Is this correct ?

Many thanks.

Amlin, Heineken, Super, Currie, ITM, Rugby Championship and some internationals

    2. Are BT Sports only showing the Aviva premiership games next season ?

They also have the Top 14, starts tomorrow night.

BT Sports is free with BT Broadband.

You can have it on Sky for £12 a month, with a One off £15 activation.

    4. I understand that once he has got BT b/band, he just has to give his Sky card number to BT and his Sky box will then show BT sports on his TV. Is this correct ?

    Yes.

    BUT

You would be better off speaking to Sky and telling them what you are going to do - they have offers to avoid you leaving that would leave you much better off than switching to BT broadband.

Bear in mind its an 18 month contract etc etc.

Personally, for all the rugby in HD, I would stick with Sky and see if they will do you a deal on the bband package so it fundamentally makes the BT Sport subscription free.
  • Thanks. Trouble is he doesn't need unlimited b/band and only has the basic package with Sky. Ony uses b/band for browsing and emails; so I don't think that Sky will do him a deal that will help will they ? and, if has the choice, I think that he will go to BT even if it means that effectivley he would pay more than if Sky will give him a deal.

I will try to get him to see if Sky will give him the BT Sports channels for free. Probably won't work but the worst that can happen is that they say no and he then gets BT b/band and says bye to Sky b/band.

The crucial thing he has is Sky Sports with Sky.

He cannot get that in HD with anyone else and Sky don't want to lose a SS customer to BT. Maybe try and leverage this offer too...

VM have just announced free BT Sports to full channel subscribers...its about to get VERY competetive between the big three...
  • For info, he will still keep Sky sports to watch golf, cricket and the Rugby that they show.

Thanks for the info, which has been very helpful. I will speak to him tonight when I get back from work.

Bear in mind, for BT you have Line rental and B/Band to pay for.

Sky are likely to give free Line Rental for at least a year if pushed.

Thats £14-£15...the same price as BT Sport - I would guess they will do that so fundamentally he's getting the same thing but only having to pay Sky and not have to deal with separate bills (which can be confusing and lead to overpaying...)
