O/S Daily Thursday 15th August 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Fly by visit as running late for work. Last day in this week then off until Tuesday, then DH's summer holidays are over and he is back at college. Can't believe it has gone already and will then be counting the weeks and days to October half term.

Some ebay stuff finishing today, no bids but lots of watchers so let's hope for a last minute bidding flurry and war!

Will try and catch up later but in the meantime, usual well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Good Morning everyone :j

Very rainy here this morning. Poor hubby has just left for work in his wet weather gear, he gets so hot in it though on the bus.

Eldest DD passed her theory test yesterday which is brilliant.:j:j
I knew she could do it as she has been practicing on her phone app at every spare opportunity for the past few weeks. Just got her practical now but that won't be for a while yet.

Well, we took evil kittens to the vets for their vaccinations and check up and they are both boys :rotfl::rotfl:. We have to think of a new name for one of them now as 'she' was called clementine but I think we'll just shorten it to Clem. They both have ear mites so it's been fun and games getting the ear drops in. Any advice on how to do this without being scratched to ribbons would be appreciated.:)

Today, I have the dentist at 10 for a check up. I need some hand holding vibes please as my hubby always used to come with me as I'm so scared of having my teeth looked at. I may take one of my DD's so I'll have to be brave in front of them. One of my fillings fell out a couple of weeks ago so that at least will have to be sorted.

Well that's about it for now. Not much else planned for today except for a food shopping delivery this afternoon.
Hope everyone manages to have a good day especially Donny-gal :bdaycake:

Take care and as always gentle hugs for all who would like one.
    Cheers m'dears x

    Morning all,

Bit gloomy here today with a chill in the air, will get dd's bedding on the line today. Need to wake her up soon for work, will drop her off then home to continue stripping the paint from the bedroom walls, it all has to come off and is a long slog. Managed to find the Oak flooring we want at a reasonable price yesterday and locally too, so need to phone and order that too.

The funeral was lovely yesterday (as lovely as they can ever be) they had a horse drawn hearse to the church (he was from an old travelling family). And all the children and his wife had written to their dad which were read out by the vicar and afterwards they put it in the grave with him, I must say the vicar was fab, did not dwell on how it happened at all. We went back to the house for a quick cuppa but then left them to rest, I really hope they managed to get some sleep last night bless them, thank you all for the support x

Fish and chips for dinner tonight, will need something quick after hours of stripping :D

    :bdaycake:
    Happy Birthday to Donny xx

    Have good days all xx

I swear by the old bath towel technique - wrap all legs & paws up in it until the only bit exposed is the bit you need - mouth / eyes / ears - and hold firmly while your associate applies treatment / gives tablet / puts in drops.

It takes some practising but is absolutely invaluable once you've mastered it. You may find they are more receptive to the towel if you get it out to dry them when they come back inside soaking wet, so they won't be scared of it!

Easily done, dumpling! I took our two kittens to the vet (years ago now). We thought we had one boy and one girl. It wasn't until the second visit to the vet that he said, in a gentle tone, "you do realise he is a she?!" By then she was used to answering to her masculine name so stayed with the same name for the rest of her 20 years. The number of times I would be at the vet and they would say "he" and I would have to say "she"!!

Grey and dull here this morning. Roasted a chicken for supper last night so planning to make chicken and mushroom (and celery and whatever else I can find to throw in) pie when I get home from work.

Hope those awaiting exam results get the ones they want.

Just dropping in before I get the girls up for another activity club.

Dd1 has still not finished room but is down to the bits that are the size of a ten pen piece so takes ages.

Car mot and service was a lot cheaper than thought so now I have to make a decision what to do with the other money I budgeted for it.

I have booked the car boot for Sunday. It was bogof so two stall for the price of one so hopefully will shift the stuff. Just to finish the kitchen cupboards and then ... Not sure! Lol!
Don’t put it down - put it away!

Rain overnight and it is grey this morning yuk.

Been MIA for a few days because I have been reorganising the kitchen and it has taken a lot longer than I thought

Not much doing today though, it has caught up with me and my arthritis is giving me real gip so it is a rest day today.

Going to get the weekly shop this afternoon but I do not need a lot as I am running the freezers down for defrosting, before I start filling them again for Christmas and I have plenty of veggies in the garden to use up.

    BFN x

Nothing much OS happening for me at the moment. If anything the exact opposite as setting DD up for university.

Good luck for exam results - today will be the last set of A levels and GCSE's so very relieved that the exam stress will be over. Youngest son is doing a BTEC so more assessed work and ongoing. Good luck to anyone waiting but after 7 years of exam results I can safely say it is not the end of the world if you dont get what you expected. Life is full of twists and turns xx
