As someone whos basicly tried every shampoo down the aisle (never been for the hairdressing expensive stuff tbh)
I would recommed John Frieda... Usally on offer for about £3-4 and have to say its amazing. I have really frizzy/wavy hair normally so I can't go for any normal cheap shampoo.
Herbal ess is really good but as silly as it sounds works to well as my hair has so much more 'life' to it and makes it harder to control.
Think it really depends on your hair type but I don't see need to spend £10+ on a bottle when I don't think it gets much better then JF...
Another one I would HIGHLY recommed is Sun silk...but they stopped selling it...you could usally pick that up from pound land...Ugh.
People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I am with you! Will be interested to see what people recommend. Although my biggest problem is people promising skincare that will make you younger/less spotty/ better hydrated etc etc. Unfortunately I'm too much of a sucker for this sort of story!0

I would recommend 'Naked' shampoo.
I use the 'Sensitive' one as i have severe eczema and being able to have a shampoo that doesn't totally dry my scalp/irritate it is a must.
I honestly find Lush shampoo solids horrible as they leave a massive buildup compared to the Naked range.0 -

That's the complete opposite to my experience with the coconut one, it doesn't create any build up for me. I haven't tried the other ones in the range, they're not really scents I'd want to use, so perhaps this one is different, or it just works differently for me.0 -
What helped me with both food and cosmetics was focusing on the ingredients more.
I use this shampoo and shower gel and I have no reason to change and buy different smaller bottles of shower gel in Boots, Superdrug, Poundland etc.

I don't want to put silicone products in my hair anymore for example. All this means I buy less products.0 -
If you look at tests that have been done, your cheapo moisturisers tend to come up just as well as the expensive brands. I have never in my life used expensive shampoos, conditioners or make up and my skin and hair are in decent condition.
I agree with the use up what you have. I bulk buy my shampoos and conditoners from a company called faith in nature, you get 5 litres of shampoo from between 35 and 48 quid depending on the stockists, you can buy direct but some other websites sell it cheaper.
That lasts me 2 years plus. Their products and ingredients arent tested on animals, thats the main reason I buy from there.
I dont cleanse, tone and moisturise, mainly because I have extremely sensitive skin, even the simple stuff is far too strong for me. I use faith in nature moisturiser occasionally, that agrees with my skin and something called ximenia oil from a company called swazi secrets.
Apart from the sensitivity I have decent skin.
My ex bf used to spend 3 times as much money as I did on cleansers/moisturisers and no I didnt nick them0 -
My sister did 'Industrial Chemistry" at Uni and my son is now studying Chemistry too.
She did a placement with Gillette (Glaxo) back in the mid 80's on shaving gel, and brought home loads of test samples, so I had about 2 years supply. Basically it's Soap, something to make it foam, something to make it stable, perfume, and magic.
That's the point, really cheap ingredients, and clever "engineering" creates alchemy.
That's the 'beauty' industry for you.
Anyway back to your hair. There is a school of thought that we shouldn't wash our hair and apparently it takes 12 weeks of not washing your hair for it to suddenly start looking after itself.
Never bothered myself as shave mine off every 3 weeks, with clippers I bought for £5 about 7 years back in a closing down sale.0 -
I use the Avon clear skin daily cleansing scrub, use it twice a day, even wash my face of make up off with it. Use Nivea regenerating night cream (£1.99 when on offer), and a bit of sudocrem in the morning before putting my foundation on.
As much as I love looking at the expensive brands, I just can't justify spending loads of money on it, I've got better things to be doing with my money.
I received L'Oreal Mythic Oil in a beauty box once, retails at around £20 and OMG its amazing, but I just can't bring myself to buy it for that much now I've run out!
I tend to use the Herbal Essences clarifying shampoo (stock up when on offer), and Alberto Balsam conditioners, at £1 a bottle you can't go wrong and they make my hair really soft!
I then use the cheapest heat defense spray I can find on offer, and recently I bought Tresemme split end serum for £2.50 (again on offer) and its actually really good.
I probably spend about £15 a month on beauty and I wear make up every day, wash my hair every day, and blow dry and straighten it every day yet my hair is in great condition despite being coloured continuously over the last 10 years.0
