You need far more info to answer that question.

Wood burner will cost loads more to install and unless you have free wood loads more to run. Gas is instant with no work, wood can be a year round job - seasoning wood, moving it, preparing it, making kindling etc etc

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
Purely on price mains gas will win, pretty much, every time.

Even if you have your own supply of wood the time to process it, season it and split it into usable sizes has a time and person cost which isn't "free".

It might seem from all of the above i'm down on "stoves".
I'm actually very pro having a stove but saving money isn't a reason to get one if you have mains gas.
  • I had the same question last year and ended up with a woodburner. Yes it costs more but the cosy feeling and sound of crackling wood a woodburner gives you on a winters night is priceless. I'm lucky enough to have a free supply of seasoned wood

Gas is instant, nothing to clean....but how smashing is a real fire, crackling wood in a cold wintry snowy Sunday afternoon.

Now the rose tinted glasses come off!

No really, I love my stove. I live in an old cottage on a mountain side and although I pay for my wood, I also get some free of many people who like to get it of old gates/pallets etc.

    Wood/multifuel for me!

I have a good stove because I get free wood, but if I was paying £70c per CM, it'd be more cheaper than gas to heat the home! Are you looking for somethign that's just asthetically pleasing?
