Biomass

Any views on changing from oil boiler to a new biomass boiler system? Oil costing a fortune to heat 4 bed bungalow up here in Inverness so looking for better options.

Comments

  • What sort of biomass?

Pellets can cost as much as oil per kW.

However if you've got access to cheap or free logs then it can make sense.

However think of the inconvenience of loading the system and the additional cost of the installation.

Pellets can cost as much as oil if bought in small quantities but are significantly cheaper when bought in bulk (1 tonne or more). The RHI makes pellets look increasingly attractive. According to latest proposals a house with a deemed annual heat requirement of 22,000kWh would receive annual payments of £2,684 (22,000x12.2pence) index linked for 7 years - could be around£20,000 for the seven year term.

Always assuming there are no changes in government policy.
