Egg credit card account closed in 2006

Options
I used to have an Egg Credit card, but I closed the account in 2006 (moved the balance to an Egg Loan).

I know I had PPI on the loan - got the letter from Canada Square operations to this effect.

As Egg was an 'online bank' - I don't have any paper statements for this account. I can't recall if I had PPI on the Egg Card - but given that in the early 2000's I went along with the the sales pitch to take out PPI on other credit cards - there is a chance that if Egg had phoned me I'd have said yes.

Given I've not come across any paper records referencing PPI and I'm a bit anal and have kept 99% of paper bank correspondence. There's a good chance I did not have any PPI product in relation to this credit card.

Does anyone know if I would have been sent things in the post to confirm a PPI policy - or could Egg have done it all "online"?

Is there any point in perusing "someone" to see if they've any records - given the age of the account? If so who would be the "someone" I send a SAR request to?

Does the fact that Canada Square Operations have told me I had PPI on the loan suggest that the records they have got do not show any PPI on my card account? Or have they just not treated credit card PPI sales in the "possibly miss sold" category?

I'd appreciate peoples input.

You could send a SAR to EGG and see what comes back.

We applied on line in July 2000 and we had PPI added to our account we couldn't remember if we agreed or not but given my Husband is a company Director we didnt normally agree to PPI as most policies didnt cover you so was pointless, there was rumours that it was a pre ticked on line 2000- 2002 but we have never had this confirmed.

we contacted Barclaycard who took over EGG and they wouldn't up hold so we took to the FOS who after the first assessment have recommend they up hold however Barclaycard are now wanting proof of being a Director so just waiting now after sending information.

So do a SAR see if there was PPI added and if you feel you have been mis sold write to EGG and see what they say.

    Hope this helps.

I have recently put a claim in for an old Egg loan, probably 8 years plus...

Canada square sent me a settlement of PPI to the tune of around 950

If Canada Square have written to you, fill in the form and return it..they will have all the details. I received a form from them about possible PPI but i wasnt sure when i had the loan and where i would have been employed at the time!

I called them and was told to fill in the form as much as i could and they would do the rest...so i did :D

They will either reply saying yes you did or no you didnt...doesnt even cost a postage stamp because their envelopes are prepaid...
  • I had an Egg Credit card in 2001, and an Egg Loan 2003 (and kept consolidating everything, till 2006 I closed it all down).

I also got the letter from Canada Square, all I had left from egg was an account number, but no statement, and the only proof I had was just verbal conversation saying that my loan wouldn't get accepted if I didn't take out PPI.

It was sent to my old address to which I had mail re-direction, so I had to send proof that I lived at my new address when I replied back to them.

I just cashed my cheque this morning after my claim was upheld to the tune of £3300.47.

    Happy Days!

    Cheers,
