£100 stolen at ATM

Basically a week or so ago I think I left my card in an ATM. I'd withdrawn a small amount, realised I'd forgtotten to view my balance. So I put the card BACK into the machine and printed a balance.
This particular machine doesn't return the card with the balance, as I've verified in the last few days with someone else.
I was distracted by talking to my girlfriend and think I left the card in the machine with the 'Would you like another service' screen after I'd taken my printed balance.
Someone has then gone to it and must've pressed yes because £100 has gone out on the same day from the same cash machine.
I've told my bank (Natwest) card was cancelled etc, got a new card now. Had forms today, need crime reference number etc, so im gonna report it to the police.
I'm just wondering what my chances are of getting this money back as I'm sure people here must have had it happen? Or something similar.
Cheers.

Yes I did similar - if you get a mini statement then your card comes out after you say you dont want any other service. If you get money then you get the card back first.
In my case, the card was taken out and they called O2 to order a top of the range phone -not to withdraw more cash.
The money never actually left my account as the address they gave for delivery (duh!) and card details didnt match and the money was in limbo for a while but dropped back in.
In your case as the transactions were close together then it was negligence in your case and i doubt you will get reimbursed as is what happened to my father when he left his in the machine and more money was taken:A 17/10/07-Started Rosemary Conley :ATotal loss so far= 4 stone 7lbs!In the magazine Sept 08:T0 -
Its lucky they didn't click the button for £300.0

I don't think you will see your missing £100 again as the criteria for getting it back from the banks is that you kept your card and pin secure. Leaving a card 'logged into' the machine probably means that you have breached that rule.

I went to use a Halifax ATM once and it had a Halifax debit card still logged in. I took it out and went into the branch and explained that I had found this stuck in the ATM, the staff didn't seem the slightest bit bothered.0

I've found cards in the machine before and handed them back in.
Do you have the receipt for your balance enquiry or know the time it was? Many ATMs have CCTV and this information might be of some use to the police. However, if it was an opportunist thief who the police are unaware of, I'm afraid you are unlikely to see your money again.0 -

I found a card in a atm with the do you want another service screen. I returned it to the bank straight away, just guess it depends on the person who has found it0
