    My postman is lovely. On occasions when the side gate is locked (totally my fault as I lock it when the dogs are out as one of them has a habit of wandering off). Anyway, he delivers my post the next day.

    No you are not obliged to leave the porch unlocked. Mail goes through the letterbox. If something is too big then postman uses whatever infrastructure is available to attract your attention be it doorbell/knocker or just physically knocking on door. If no reply, leave card,,simples.

    It is not his place to get angry with customers. Having said that, there is a lot of stress about. A postman told me that if he doesnt deliver packages and brings them back, i can be spoken to/disciplined,,which if true is ridiculous..
    Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
