BA025 to Hong Kong 5th August

I've just returned from a short business trip to Hong Kong, on the odd occasion I fly on business I like to use our 'flag carrier' airline, but.........on the outward leg the left main gear wouldn't retract, so we flew over the channel and dumped fuel then returned to Heathrow for an overnight stay. Interestingly the plane had just come out of maintenance and there was some suggestion that the locking pin that stops accidental retraction of the gear while on the ground could have been left in (the left main gear didn't retract). The replacement flight left two hours late the next day and the IFE was intermittent.
So, my question is am I liable to compensation BA put us up and paid for meals, but I lost a day of the short trip I had planned?
Thanks in Advance
