Virgin system can't cope with long surnames - I get to pay £105 to change!

Not impressed. Wife and kids have got double-barrelled surname.
So I make booking with Virgin and enter correct name.
System lops off last character. So I inform Virgin and let them know that it might be best to leave off the hyphen (which we've done in the past sometimes).
Guess what - I get to pay £35pp amendment fee.:-(

Really?!!!!!! That's surprising and not very helpful!0

Yep. Its hardly an amendment.
I can see why they charge if you change a person on a booking but just because I let them know how to get the name in the system properly is beyond.
Its a case of charge now think later. I'm even getting emails telling me my holidays is in danger of being cancelled because I owe £105!!!!0 -
Find the spelling correction bit is free on the easyJet website and email them a copy highlighting their unreasonableness.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

But they're not travelling with Easyjet are they.
I wouldn't have even bothered pointing it out to them. I don't think anyone would have questioned it.0 -
is it actually lopped off in their system though or just in what you can see?
last time I flew with Virgin on the return flight a new TSA agent in training called his supervisor over to ask if it was OK that I was shown as Mr...somewhat horrified as we always, always double/triple check before submitting I looked at my confirmation and also my boarding pass.
confirmation - passenger name Mrs Ferf1223 Surname
boading pass - passenger name Surname,Ferf1223 Mr
So in one side of their system it was there in full and correct but in the other it wasn't - the 's' was too much for them to cope with...and probably it has been like this for ages but no one had noticed it or pointed it out before.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Yes it an issue for the airline at least if the last char is missed off. They will not accept this if ticket and passport are different.
What we've done in the past is miss out the hyphen which is acceptable.0 -

Perhaps you should do it as routine in future.0 -

weird, Expedia/Virgin screwed my name up (put first and middle as one LONG first name) on the ticket and they didn't charge me to fix at the airport when it printed my boarding card.Insert smart witty comment here0
