BT Activation + Moved away from problematic SKY!

Having had numerous problems with SKY Broadband, I decided to move away from them a few weeks ago.
The SKY Broadband service fell out almost daily at around 11:30 / 12:00 and would come back on again at 14:30 / 15:00 every day!
SKY sent around a BT engineer on a number of occasions to resolve the issue and all infrastructure in my property was changed (sockets, CAT5 cable, routers etc - but this didn't resolve the problem).
Therefore, I decided to move to BT - and this situation is even worse!
I was promised an activation date of the 8th August, and BT arranged the termination date with SKY based on this date to activate the BT Broadband service.
However, as of yet, the BT Broadband service hasn't been activated (but the phone line has!).
BT Customer Service line's automated service stated "we are aware that there is a delay in your order, we are working to resolve the issue and hope to resolve this issue shortly".
I called them today, and a received a call back under the "call back - queue buster (!)" solution.
The chap said "the issue is down to the BT Wholesale (sic)" before he put me on hold then hung up.
Not to mention the fact that don't seem to want to activate the BT Sport that was supposedly offered as part of the deal.
Is anyone else experiencing such problems? How long does it normally take to activate the Broadband after the stated activation date?
I have written to both SKY and BT to complain, because the service from both is an embarrassment to their companies.
