Central Heating Timer - Replacement

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice please, I have an old Potterton central heating timer that controls my oil fired boiler and I would like to upgrade it with a new digital timer and would love some assistance please. Is it just a case of getting a replacement with the correct number of wires or is it much more complicated than that?

I would include a picture but I'm not allowed to just yet (new member)

thanks for any help

It is fairly straightforward to replace the timer. Are you competent with electrics?

What is the make and model of the boiler and the existing timer?

Boiler type is irrelevant, but system configuration is relevant, pump primary, S plan, Y plan? ;)

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's irrelevant. Besides, additional information is useful. ;)

Tis in the case of Oil Boilers, don't require the extra electrical connections as a modern gas boiler ;)

Not if its irrelevant, it will confuse the OP and cloud anything that is relevant ;)

Not really into your boiler but your system configuration. Assuming you have a hot water tank, is there a single 3-port valve for central heating and hot water or two separate 2-port ones?

Is the pump near the hot water tank or incorporated inside the boiler.
