just switched to talktalk..is there a cool off?

hi all
just switched from plusnet to talktalk on roughly identical packages.

the speed of my TT service is miserable, .8Mps...i have to switch back...is there a standard cooloff period with all providers?

i'm on my TT account now and cant find any way of viewing my contract or anything legal.

any advice gratefully recieved.

  • If you are already using the service it would not surprise me if you were outside of the cooling off period.

There's no 'standard' or statutory cooling off period-you are limited to whatever the provider chooses to offer, if anything.
I believe that TT give you 30 days from your go live date.
What exactly is wrong with 8Mbps-what did you think you'd get?

    He said 0.8Mbps.

There's a thread on ThinkBroadBand which I'm guessing is by the same poster. Router stats there suggested a high noise level causing very low sync.

If it is the same poster he's reverted to Sky now so there is no point trying to diagnose the issue (which imo from the latest info there was a dodgy port on the TT kit) - it's just a case of whether he has to pay TT an early cancellation fee.

  • I like a lot of people who have switched ,have had a brilliant service without hassle and great value .
I know a lot of people moan about them but they already have 20 % of the phone /Internet buisness in the uk ,so can't be giving too bad a service !
  • To be fair a lot of those customers were inherited when talktalk took over other ISPs. I do note talktalk never release their actual churn rate, which tends to suggest it must be awful. It's a numbers game with them, I guess.
  • thanks to all replys, i didnt expect so many.

i switched from plusnet because i'd become tired, i'd been with them 15 years and kept on going over my limit, the service kept dropping out and i'd have to upgrade to get anything better.

so TT it was, spoke to CS today, and was rather alarmed (or comically) to hear that there was a 14day cooling off period but it had expired before the service begins.

but tech services 'did' something and speed went up from .8 to 10Mbs, so all well. i actually think its a policy to give you rubbish speed till you complain, that way if you're my mum who doesnt know any better will just stay on .8Mbs.

so Cust Serv was pretty good all-in-all,

And how exactly would TT benefit by your connection being slower?
