Yes, mine only has LCD screen, no optical viewfinder.
Also 2.5" screen, bigger than screen on my old digital camera.

So does my Fuji F11, as I said earlier, I get 500 shots per charge, I can only use the LCD Screen, no viewfinder.;)

I have just bought a new camera with a bigger screen and I was caught out by the battery capacity, I had to buy a second battery (it doesn't take standard AA or whatever) so I didn't miss any shots on holiday. The problem for me is the camera does some whizzy things and it's very hard to resist the temptation to play with the slideshows etc.
The last camera I had with rechargable AA's seemed to last a lot longer than this one.

Used it yesterday afternoon (3-7pm) & it seems to be using batteries like no tomorrow !! Took about 140 photos.
Was it switched on continuously from 3-7pm?

Try setting it so it Auto Powers off within a minute of you not usingf it so if it accidently comes on it will turn off quickly.

No I was switching it on/off.
It would also auto power off.

It also depends how much you use the zoom and the flash. As it was a new toy, perhaps you were using them more than usual when you were testing it out?

t used 3 lots of batteries before battery warning appeared & shutdown:
-1x set of new Panasonic Alkaline batteries (came with new camera)

Panasonic can't make batteries and they should be banned from selling them. My camera won't even switch on with them, and my mp3 plays about 5 tracks max before they expire. Just put a new Panasonic in fire alarm, it lasted overnight! (Foolishly I bought a job lot of the damn things once - no wonder they were cheap!!) Don't know about the others you used, but can't beat Duracell imo. My camera lasts for ages on Duracell.

Peter999 I work in a camera shop and i'm 99% certain the rechargeables that come with the fuji a700 are crap... don't know why but they are! Loads of comments that they don't hold their charge.

Get the highest strength batteries you can, and a good charger. If you want some throw-aways (ie for hols) try energiser ultimate lithium, pricey but last.

I bought some very high capacity rechargeable batteries (2700 mAh).

These are better in my new Fuji FinePix A700 camera, but still they don't last as long as I would expect.

If I use these 2700mAh batteries in my old digital camera (Fuji FinePix A405) they last FOREVER, a whole day taking photos & with flash !!

I have checked the technical specs. which show power consumption for both cameras.
There is nothing there to suggest that new A700 camera should use so much more power than old A405 camera.

They show both cameras should take 300+ pictures with full charged batteries.

The problem is, if I put a fully charged set of batteries in, I cannot rely on the A700 camera to last a day taking pictures.

    A700 camera -Power Consumption:

    A405 camera -Power Consumption:

Maybe my camera is faulty or a dodgy one.

    What do people think ??

Ps: Strange thing is, when the 2700 mAh batteries show low charge on new A700 camera & it keeps shutting down.
I put these so called "low charge" batteries in old A405 camera & they still work ok, do not show low charge at all !!

Presumably the newer camera has a larger LCD screen and these consume more power.
