Everything apart from towing :(. But the RAC bods were really good. The first one came out but by then it was too late to find a garage. So he said, OK, just leave it here and call in the morning so that we can start again - they can only tow the once apparently. The next day, we found a garage and the RAC came out again and towed it in.

A few years ago the turbo on my 307 went when we were in France.
it was still drivable but very slow accelerating.

I drove it 500 miles home because I didn't fancy sitting in a truck for 2 days. :)

That's pretty standard though. It's why Autoaid works because you are covered for the tow fees and the rest you'd have to shell out anyway.

When my friend crashed his bike we brought him back and a combination of ADAC/AA brought the bike back a few weeks later.

Brother in law managed cover for a replacement car which led to some great pictures of a Nissan Almera Tino on the Nurburgring with its back wheel in the air while his 200SX went back to Newcastle on a flatbed.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

We broke down in France several years ago and were forced to stay an extra week (yay!) while the car was fixed because we had no breakdown cover. Fortunately, we broke down right outside a Renault garage in a little village and they dealt with the whole thing, including contacting Renault UK, who confirmed the repairs were covered under warranty. What was surprising was that they fixed loads of little bits that were wrong with the car as well as the main issue (the turbo). That's apparently quite standard practice in France.

Being a Renault garage in France they should get plenty of practice
