Car Giant - AA Warranty
Options
Hi All
I know this may be a futile thing but....
I bought a car from Car Giant in January, and brought a AA Warranty with it (I can hear the groans).
Now - I have recently sold the car, phoned Car Giant and have been told that I can't get any refund on my £800 policy, even though it's only a few months in.
Can anyone give me tips on how to complain about this in a constructive way that may help me get some sort of refund?
I haven't successfully used the policy at all, I tried to make a claim but was told that the part that was at fault was not covered as it was a split pipe and not a hardware issue.
Thanks
John

Your policy isn't with car giant it is with the AA and either way, they didn't make you sell the car.
You should speak to the AA and see if you can maybe transfer it to your new car. I would say that's your best bet for getting any money back. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
You will need to read the small print of the policy to see what refund (if any) is available if you cancel it before the end of the term.
Or you could call up the AA and ask them - http://www.aawarranty.co.uk/0 -
Thanks for a quick reply. I have realised they didn't make me sell the car.
I don't have a new car to transfer it to so that is not an option - good point though if I had one.0 -

Family member? Worth just calling the AA and speaking to them. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
KTF - Thanks, I don't have a copy of the policy details in my car paperwork so have written to Car Giant to get them.
I was advised when I spoke to the AA Warranty customer service line to contact Car Giant directly as the dealer.0 -
It is usually possible to ensure any Warranty is transferred to the new owners - it makes the purchased (for them) attractive.
Hoping to cash in the benefit will depend on the terms you entered into, but I have a feeling a refund of any sort will not fly.0 -
Two choices, Bob Hope and no hope.0

We also bought a warranty on our car, at the time the salesman informed us that we could transfer it to the new owners if we sold it within the three years. (i.e. the warranty was with the car not us)
Wish I'd bought one with the previous car, it would have come in handy with the replacement gearbox and clutch (hence why we took this one out).Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
I assume you chose to take the warranty? If you were coerced then there's always the mis-selling route. Otherwise I think the best you could get is a token gesture from the AA after a lot of back and forth. Or as others have said, look into transferring it.0

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I had a feeling the Hope twins might make an appearance on the refunds side.
If I can't get refund, I will try to either transfer to a family car or to the new owners - rather it didn't just get cancelled and CG/AA keep the money.
When selling these things it's a lot of doom and gloom and playing on peoples worries - managed to say no to the GAP, but this got me! Grrr, will know better to look around on the internet to compare - there are much better deals around for better products!!0
