vodafone ruined my credit score

You've quoted me so I assume that's aimed at me.
Yes, and in my post I suggest how I would go about it. I'm just prioritising the mortgage application over the "is the debt actually owed" argument.
Thought I made that clear in my post, but apparently not.
You did but paying the debt now will not remove the entry on credit history if it's a valid entry.
It may have gone further than just missed payment entries, there could be other defaults recorded but only the OP and lenders they have tried have access to their credit history.0 -
No idea if the OP will be back.
However I'm curious why this bubbled up again. The OP posted this here three months ago - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4600155
with pretty much the same advice, why the re-emergence 3 months later with some of the details less clear than before.
The OP has not got to the bottom of the root cause even though they have known it for at least 3 months. A Vodafone rep offered to help but we don't know it they got involved or not.
I'm not looking to assign blame, just wondering what's changed in the 3 months to make the OP come back and repeat the story rather than continue the old thread, which will generate the same initial advice.0 -
I imagine they are still being chased for the debt which is quite possibly valid debt. They do not appear to have any evidence to state otherwise but as they feel they don't owe the money they simply aren't paying it. There isn't much a forum can do for someone if they are determined to get it their way without a clear path to do so. I am not saying whether they agreed 18 months or 2 years but at this stage it seems logical to pay the debt to start the ball rolling with their credit and then fight the charges and damage to their credit file later. Without proof they don't really have any options. If they win great if they lose they need to move on. It may feel like their life is ruined now but that will pass.No idea if the OP will be back.

If I can just clear this up, I was new to this forum when I posted my original thread, and I did not realise that anyone had posted anything on the thread, I thought I would receive an e-mail should that happen. . . I didn't know what to do for a couple of months and also buried my head in the sand, the whole thing wears me out and makes me feel helpless ( this has been going on since 2011). I decided to re-post and only after I did that, did I look into my profile and then see that people had very kindly offered me their opinions and solutions. I have since been in contact with the Vodafone web relations rep - Lee and the default has been removed and the balance cleared. I am just left with some late payments which may or may not be a problem - time will tell. But I am very grateful to Lee and to the other replies that I have received. This site is very useful and there seems to be some knowledgeable people amongst the users. Of course this is a lesson learned but that's what life is all about, we make a mistake and we learn from it.0

Nice to hear you had a successful resolution to your problem.
You might want to create a new user name if you're happy to carry on contributing to MSE though otherwise people might get the wrong impression!0 -
