With blown head gasket it might be worth £120 weighed in at a scrap yard, Repaired it could see another 50K out of it.
Typical Head gasket repair is £500 MAX, (100 in parts if you do it yourself) and a secondhand engine fitted would probably cost the same.
Your car fixed is worth What £600 maybe £800, so Yes I can see why you think it's beyond economic repair.
Personally I go for the better the devil you know attitude to cars. Has this car got any other significant issues? If not I'd get it fixed.
It's going to cost you £3K to replace it. (A guess is that you'll buy a new car on easy credit, at £200 a month over 360 months?)
Personally I think head gaskets have become a service item with some cars. Fix it.0 -
If the tyres really are new flog them on eBay and send the car to the scrappy. You will find the max value this way I think.0
