Hi everyone
Have a broadband connection on my desktop which is wired into a Netgear wireless router with aol as my ISP. Just bought a dell laptop but can’t get it to connect to the internet with a wireless connection. When I open Internet Explorer it keeps showing “The page cannot be displayed”. A friend said that I need a WEP key, I have managed to find a page in the system the shows a Wep key but in the box were the key should be displayed it just shows a series of XXXXX.
Any help would be appreciated.

if the WEP was on the laptop would ask for the key when you connect to the Netgear in the first place ??

try clicking on the line on the Internet Explorer cannot connect page where it says "Network Diagnostics" and going through that

Not sure what you mean? I found a number on the bottom side of the Netgear router (Think it was the serial no.) and put this in the Wep/ Network key window on the laptop. Could not find any other number on the router apart from a Mac no. Guess this is not the right number but not sure where to get it from?

if the Connection wizard does not repair the connection then right click on the Dell wireless icon and tell it to let windows manage the wireless connection, you will need to select the netgear wireless router again and enter the Key

on a brand new Dell ??, must be 2nd hand
try right click on the Dell wireless icon and change the configuration to let Windows manage it (you may have to untick the box that says let the Dell software manage it, can't remember)
