hi all just a question to ask please I have been with virgin media over 12 months now and at the start I had to pay a deposit of £100 so I paid this as I was told it would be refunded after 6 months.the 6 months past and I called to ask where it was and I was told that because some of my payments were late I would have to wait a further 6 months to get my deposit back.anyway its been twelve months now so I called again today and was told I wouldn't be getting it back as I don't meet the criteria as I had some more late payments during this second batch of 6 months I didn't find out how long I would have to wait I shall have to call back I was fuming that much I slammed the phone down on the idiot on the other end.even though some payments were late ive always cleared the balance within a day or two and my balance has been back to normal.this dosent seem right or fair to me it keeps getting moved everytime I call.i even asked for them to place it on my account so it would cover my bill at least for a month or so they wont even do that.i just want back what belongs to me.any advice thankyou

just found this so does this this mean ive got to keep a clean slate for a year......
You may be asked for any deposit at any time (as we believe to be reasonable in the circumstances) as security for the equipment and in case you do not pay your bills or return equipment provided to you. All or any part of this deposit may be used to pay any charges you owe under this agreement. We may (but do not have to) return your deposit after twelve months if we believe that you have a good payment history. We will usually (but not necessarily) consider you to have a good payment history if you have paid your account for twelve months in a row without your services having been restricted, suspended or disconnected and you are not having to pay under a payment plan.0 -
Looks like it. Why didn't you do so during the second six months?0

fell on hard times this past year but even if I did I would have the balance cleared up within 1-3 days0

If you cancel the contract, they have to return it by law minus any money they can prove they have lost only.
So if you want your hundred quid back, give them the boot once the minimum period is up.Be happy...;)0 -

thanks spacey I don't particulary want the money back to me I wouldn't mind if they threw it on my account at least then it keeps my bill low for a month or two and they get to keep it anyway.rang them back and they have requested the deposit go straight onto my account it takes 7 days wow be quicker just go to the man or woman in the office next door lol0 -
A late payment is a late payment (be it one day or one week late) and will result in the actions they have taken. Sky do exactly the same. It's not one late payment, as you've apparently had several of them.
If your cashflow is such that you can't afford to put their account on a DD (so it cannot be paid late), then perhaps you need to reconsider if you can afford subscription TV? Freeview and Freesat will cost you nothing. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Wow So a few payments have been late so therefore i can't afford it and where did i say that I couldn't afford to put it on a direct debit0

Well, to state the obvious, you obviously can't afford it if you can't pay on time each month.
If you could afford it, then why would you not use a DD to avoid this situation, and then you would not be loaning VM £100 interest free?
I fail to see why you're venting your anger on VM-what do you expect them to do if you fail to make the payments on the due date?
How many late payments have you made in the last 12 months? No free lunch, and no free laptop

What the hell do you know about me nothing nothing at all how do you know i haven't been able to afford in which case i can! I pay weekly via automated because it suits me i could have set up a direct debit if I'd have wanted too but i didn't you don't know jack !!!! about me and for your information about 3 times and yes if that is the case then fair enough but don't jump on this thread acting like a prat and just assuming that because someone has been late with a payment they can't afford it . shall anyone who is late with a mortgage payment sell up and move out because in your view if a payment is missed your obviously destitute if you have nothing constructive to say don't bother.0

Probably best not to go on public forums asking for advice on money matters, telling all and sundry how you have "fallen on hard times" if you do not want people to respond with polite and helpful advice.
how is that weird "fallen on hard times" which I may have worded a bit wrong ive not been gutter bound and the only response I have had is someone basically stating that because I have been late a few times with the payment LATE and not paying altogether I obviously cant afford it.i didn't know about the policy of keeping a clean sheet with the payment history affecting the payback of any deposit that was my isuue.its like someone coming on here with bank charges issues and being hit with well you shouldn't have gone overdrawn or your dd shouldn't have bounced.if this is the help and advice you get I know where not to go in future.judgmental or what0
