Try the above first. My Hermes will collect from your home or you can drop it off at a shop (do a search for your nearest on their website). Collect Plus you just drop it off at the shop (again search their website).

You just need to print off a label once you buy the purchase and stick it to the parcel. They are far cheaper for bigger parcels than royal mail and they are tracked for free. You have to pay extra few quid for more compensation though. I have used both with one problem which resulted in a full refund.

Really I don't understand why people pay £15 to send a parcel through Royal Mail with no tracking when for around £4-£7 you can send with tracking.

There have been issues with Hermes and Collect + particularly with slow deliveries. They are also tricky if there are problems with a delivery as often the customer can't go to a local office as they often can with RM. Some people offer both RM and one of these cheap carriers at different prices and let the buyer make the choice.

The reason people chose Royal Mail is that Royal Mail do actually DELIVER the parcels, some of these couriers do not.

We live in an unadopted road and Hermes absolutely REFUSE to deliver to us at all even though the road is not bumpy or difficult to drive on, it is just their company policy. So they take the money from the sender and then do not deliver, personally I think it is fraud.

Try Parcel2go / Interparcel / Transglobal etc. etc.

I used interparcel.com for the first time on Monday and was very pleasantly surprised. They are middlemen (bit like the car insurance comparison sites).

I chose the City Link Economy quote and my parcel was collected from my home and delivered 150 miles away within 15 hours. Excellent service.

You can get better deals but the easiest way if you're selling on Ebay is Parcelforce via Paypal. I think it's £12 for 48 hour service nationwide (includes islands and Highlands), also an option to drop off at Post Office.

We live on an unadopted road that is bumpy and we have never had a problem with Yodel, CityLink, My Hermes or any other courier delivering to us. My Hermes collect and deliver to us a couple of times a week.

Spend 15 mins queuing in the post office, question you about what is in it, have them try and sell you home insurance and watch your parcel disappear into the unknown. Or spend 5 mins on-line, drop it off at a shop and you can have it fully tracked often a lower price for bigger or heavier parcels.
