Thames water is today asking OFWAT for permissions to charge all customers a one off charge of £30.

They say it is to cover the purchase of Land for a new sewage, bad debt and other investments.

Of course to me and the 25+ million other adults in the UK the first thought might be, you were privatised so that you would bear the costs and so you should reduce your dividend, borrow money from the markets to fund your business etc etc.

It is up to you to encourage the board of OFWAT to STOP this obscene charge by Thames Water.

Ofwat says that its email structure is

firstname.surname@ofwat.gsi.gov.uk

These are the people you need to complain to

Jonson Cox (WSRA) - Chairman
Regina Finn (WSRA) - Chief Executive
Penny Boys (WSRA) - Non-Executive Director
Robin Paynter-Bryant (WSRA) - Non-Executive Director
Wendy Barnes (WSRA) - Non-Executive Director
Sonia Brown (WSRA) - Senior Director of Markets and Economics
Keith Mason (WSRA) - Senior Director of Finance and Networks

The question I had today was should we leave Thames Water TODAY just to be sure that we are not stung by this RIP OFF.

I am a bit surprised not to see any comparison pages on this or other switching sites, then I found out that we CAN'T SWITCH according to OFWAT they hold a monopoly in their area

ofwat .gov . uk/consumerissues/watercompanies/

So all we can do is complain to the people above.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

And perhaps you could also explain how exactly TW customers switch suppliers?
    I'm not holding my breath...
If it was possible to switch water suppliers, do you really think that SWW would have a single customer left?

So who to go to? Perhaps the MSE community can list their water company, the costs along with the number of bedrooms they have, whether they are on a meter, how many people live in the house etc?

here is a list of alternative suppliers

    Anglian water
    Bournemouth and West Hampshire Water
    Bristol Water
    Cambridge Water
    Cholderton & District Water
    Dee Valley
    Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water)
    Essex and Suffolk Water
    Folkestone and Dover Water
    Mid Kent Water
    Northumbrian Water
    Portsmouth Water
    Scottish Water
    Severn Trent Water
    South Staffordshire Water
    South East Water
    South West Water
    Southern Water
    Sutton and East Surrey Water
    Tendring Hundred Water
    Three Valleys Water
    United Utilities Water
    Wessex Water
    Yorkshire Water

    Thames Water - GET OUT!!

    You cannot change supplier!

Well Thames (and the rest) could start by simply cutting off people who don't pay.

That would need a change in the law; companies cannot cut off water to domestic customers.

We have a prominent poster on here who seems very proud that he doesn't pay for his water and urges everyone else not to pay. Just means the rest of us pay in increased charges.

Seems Reasonable not to pay, I mean if everyone else is then why not.

If, after all the profit they made by not paying what they should, they still don't have enough to do everything they owe to do, maybe it would be time for Thames management to be changed.
How can you blame the ones who don't pay for their water, for the rise of the water charges, when Thames Water find perfectly normal to not pay what they owe to pay?

Ironically, £72m of the revenue amount they are under-collecting and trying to raise by this levy is due to bad debt/non payment....
TW are currently the second cheapest supplier in the UK (allegedly).

And we have another prominent poster whose comments only encourage a response. And who fails to address - or even mention - the well publicised reasons for the non-payment.

It's because the water companies are crooks and liars, BTW.
