Keyboard failed on my Dell after an unfortunate interface with a glass of Pinot: £17 off ebay and 5 minutes to replace. The process was well documented on this thing called "google" which I hear is all the rage.

There are these things called "Youtube" and "iplayer" and "torrents" that have made it rather more convenient to download or watch online a programme rather than plug in a digital tuner.
Should you need to add any of the accessories you mention, there are these amazing little plugs called "USB Sockets" that allow such devices to be added in a trice, and even moved between machines, rather than get under a dusty desk and unbolt the side panel to a huge, heavy dusty machine to add a card.....

    Honestly, this site!

I like to sit on my sofa with my laptop. I sit at a desk with a computer at work, I'm damned if I'll be doing that at home too when I'm seeking entertainment. It's a privilege I'll happily pay another £50 over 3-4 years laptop lifespan for.

Perhaps soon I can hang up my gloves and let Weird Nev take up the good work. :money:

    Hi

    My laptop is working!

It's back to factory settings and everything is working!

Can I just ask I haven't yet used the restore discs I made, I have left it for the minute as factory settings. I really don't want to load some of the old programmes and downloads that were on my laptop. It seems sensible to start afresh.

When you load a restore disc you've made does it load everything you had on you computer before or just the main programmes.
I had office on it and obviously it's gone now, without searching for my original word disc would it reload using the back up?

Can I say again a huge thank you to closed, my children are going to be delighted next week! :T

how did office get on it?

if it came with office, a factory restore should have put office back on. if you bought it afterwards, you'll have to reinstall.

if you backup in future using macrium, you won't lose anything, it backs up programs, data, windows, settings all in one go

if you still have the hp around, a factory restore might bring it back to life.

No it was added after a year or so, I've only got the free viewer at the minute. I've got the original disc somewhere, so the recovery disc won't have office on?

The Recovery Disc is much the same as the Recovery partition that you just used. The only difference is that one is the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and the other the 64bit version.

You'll need to keep hitting the Windows/Microsoft Updates button to get the OS up to date, regardless of the programs that you may want to reinstall.

Ok that makes sense, I'll update windows then when it's up to date add the office programme.

    Thank you very much.

No, add Office now, as likely that will need to be updated too.

A spare standard battery can come in at under £12.

Longer lasting version version much the same.

Original Twelve cell extended battery £19.99 Should give you close to double the usage time of your original battery when new.

Brilliant my laptop will be as good as new at this rate.

Im off to restore my mother-in-laws laptop as well which is the same as mine and has been playing up.

Two laptops saved from the dump and money saved equals a happy OP, husband, children and brownie points with the mother-in-law.
    Very MSE!!!:T
