Hi
I have up to £400 to spend on a laptop, my toshiba has given up on me. I have an ipad but use the laptop for iTunes, writing documents, PowerPoint, transferring stuff onto my ereader. I also mark papers on it. Obviously security would be a bonus to so I didn't need it separately.
My old computer did not seem to have enough memory at 2gb so luckily I bought and external memory box and saved everything on it before my laptop quit.
I'm not keen on a toshiba again and my HP before that wasn't great either on can anyone recommend a make of computer to start my search and if possible an idea of specification I might get for my money.
I'm not bad on a computer but really confused when looking to buy one.
Thanks

Hi,
It is taking about 15mins to load onto windows 2000. Then everything you go on or try to open takes so long. It took me half an hour to scan one document and save it onto a stick. There is security on it and i don't think its a virus. The battery also only lasts about a hour.
There's nothing on it now I'm worried about, is there a way to completely reboot it to see if would work again?

Assuming it's a reasonably new machine, backing up and reinstalling windows should cure it in less than 30 minutes!!

Hi
It's a toshiba satellite L500-1XL
I don't know how to chcek ram and yes I think I've got CD will check now.0 -
how old is it
right click on "computer" in explorer, properties.
are you talking about the same machine in all these posts?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
Hi
Yes it's the same machine prob about 5 years old.
I've switched it on but every time I try and click on something like computer it freezes and says application has stopped working so at the Moment I can't check. Now the windows initial picture is on screen and loading circle turning but doing nothing. If I leave it long enough it has in the past eventually opened. I've found the manual and my husband says the disc is in the box in my loft. If I have the disc is it just a matter of putting it in disc drive to the laptop or do I clear it first.
I've just got onto properties now its 2009 ram 2gb 1.87 usable.0 -
I was wrong about windows 2000 its definitely 2007. Sorry.0
