vauxhall lifetime warranty

I have a zafira which is a year old and came with a lifetime warranty. I contacted customer services to check I could get it serviced locally and then get the warranty re-confirmed and was told yes as long as they used Vauxhall approved parts. The car was serviced by Kwik Fit (£100 cheaper than the dealer).
When my wife took it to the dealer to get the warranty reconfirmed she was that unless we could provide an invoice to confirm that the oil used was purchased directly from Vauxhall (!) they would not reconfirm it.
The Kwik Fit manager has been excellent and has given me a print out showing what grade of oil Vauxhall told them to use and proof this was followed. When I go to the dealer tomorrow what should I be saying? Has anyone else had problems with Vauxhall garages trying to worm their way out of reconfirming the warranty? Thanks.

As long as the oil meets the spec that Vauxhall recommend for their vehicles

    "
Lifetime Warranty cover is dependent upon confirmation that the vehicle has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended servicing schedules using genuine Vauxhall parts or parts of equal quality, including oils, and that the annual reactivation checks have been carried out."

Yep oil has to be the same as some garages will do a low cost service using cheaper oil.

I have an Astra which has similar service costs and I'm struggling to see how Kwik Fit were £100 cheaper. My first service was about the £140 mark (maybe less) and my 2nd service was £160 (bigger one) at the main dealers including collection, drop off and mini valet.

The benefit also being the car have any software updates, recalls and the warranty card updated saving me time and if they do find anything wrong that's not wear and tear they fix it at the time.

Also should be easier to sell with a main dealer service history in the future.
  • As Oddball Jamie, i wouldn't be playing with fire by putting at risk the warranty.

You can save money by shopping around main dealers for servicing, some country dealers charge considerably less.

Spot on Gilbert & Sullivan, when I had my last service done, I had my local dealer price match one 50 miles away.
  • Stop going to kwik fit. Use a local Independent, and remind them that they can get something called VAUXHALL TRADE CLUB. They can obtain vauxhall parts, including GM/Vauxhall/Opel branded oil, at a vastly reduced price. They are actually cheaper than none branded parts in a motor factor.
Interestingly, my local vauxhall dealer, used to sub-contract servicing to local independents, which I only found out when I spotted my father in laws car on a ramp 400 yrds down the road. And when you looked at the MOT certificate it was done at a 3rd garage about 200 yrds further down from that.

Madness, just for the sake of £100 I wouldn't be using anyone other than a main dealer for a cars first service.
What happens when its time to sell the car?
If I was looking to buy it and saw it had its first service by Kwickfit I'd run a mile.

I'm guessing since the OP wants to preserve their lifetime warranty that they aren't planning to sell anytime soon.

However, I agree with other posts, a bit of haggling with the main dealer normally brings the price down considerably to the point it isn't worth going elsewhere for the hassle. Plus any fixes get done there and then under warranty. Usually a wash too!!

I suspect that if the OP is concerned about the non-transferable lifetime warranty, they won't be replacing for some time to come.

That said, if I was concerned about the lifetime warranty I'd be getting the car serviced at Vauxhall -- their dealers are notorious for worming out of anything and everything (to the point where I'd put money on Toyota being more inclined to replace a gearbox at 8 years old than Vauxhall even with the latter's "lifetime warranty"), and I would not be wanting to give them any ammunition at all.

This becomes even more obvious when you consider the significant financial difficulties Opel are in. The lifetime warranty is pretty much last roll of the dice for them -- GM have tried to get rid a few times over the last few years, the latest attempt being an aborted merger attempt with Peugeot earlier this year. It is far from certain that Vauxhall will even still exist in its current form in 8-10 years, so I'd take any commitment to long-term warranties from this company with a large dollop of salt.
  • Not sure why the OP is making a fuss by going into VX.

Car has been serviced with OE spec bits. End of.

Arrr you mean the 100,000 mile warranty that COULD last a lifetime. JOKE !

Most people do 12,000 miles a year, so the lifetime warranty is more like 8.33 year warranty.....or if you do 25,000 miles a year....4 year warranty.

If you want the warranty to last a lifetime of driving, say a 20 year old to when they are 75 then they must only travel 2,500 miles a year.
