i was in sainsbobs the other day and someone had left a brand match coupon on the self service i went to give it to the assistant on hand but he explained that they couldn't trace who owned it so i may as well use it or it would be thrown away. Ok i thought now brand match coupons i get are usually pennies so i put it through it beeped and assistant came to help he said its because it was over £5. The coupon was actually £7.50! I couldn't believe it you wouldn't leave that much cash on counter so no qualm with using coupons here.

When I was a kid you often saw coupons in newspapers and magazines and my mother would always cut them out and take them to Sainsbury's - they took the money off your total even if you hadn't bought the product.

When this policy changed she never bothered with coupons at all.

If I go in a shop I rarely visit (eg Morrisons and Tesco) and get a a £5 off £50 or something, I give it to the person with the biggest trolleyful I see.

I've had two brand match evouchers from Ocado in 14 months worth a grand total of 11p :rotfl: In Sainsbury's I've had about 20p in last two years. I don't think I buy enough brands as I tend to buy own brand organic.

Personally I'd ignore someone whinging in the queue behind me. I certainly wouldn't be embarrassed about using coupons if I had them.

I don't have a Nectar or Clubcard loyalty card so my mother gets my points when we go shopping. She gets miffed in Waitrose though because I have amyWaitrose card and get free coffee ;)

I have seen customers hand over 1p Brand Match coupons. I would be so embarrassed to use that coupon.

The smallest BM coupon I used was 32p.
  • I think I really wound the customers behind me up tonight, I had a fist full of vouchers and I could see they were all staring at me but I collectively saved £15!! I just thought there are plenty of people that would keep me waiting so why shouldn't i!?

    used to.... Love it now

Nothing better than going to the till for a £40 shop and paying around 10-30% less :)

for example my last shop vouchers used

    £4 off 40 spend
    £1.65 Off nappy's
    £1 off beer
    65p off cereal
had a few money off next shop vouchers was around £3.

when I go to tesco's these days I use the hand scanners they have much easier to find the mismatched stuff :)

I have a helping hand £5 off 40 £3 off soap powder 1.50 off nappy's, plus various others for my next shop.

In student land where I live, the closest supermarket is Tesco, but I know loads of my friends don't have Clubcards, but that may be out of laziness rather than anything else

I have no problem using coupons, but that my be my student money-head talking :)
Ask them to save their receipts for you, you can take them to customer services and gelt the points added to your card :)

i alwasy have my coupons in my hand whilst waiting to get the stuff scanned so people behind are aware and i also say to the check out person i have quite a few coupons before they start scanning seems to stop dirty looks etc and to be honest i cant live without the saving i make :-)
  • Hello from a noob. I don't know if this is a common thing to do but recently two of us do the shopping (long story). I have the coupons - and I check at customer service they're valid - and then I'll do the coupon shop, usually only a basket or so, while mum does the bulk shop. It seems to suit everyone that way.

I had one woman in front of me at Tesco who seemed to have LOADS of coupons, worst thing was she didn't even get them out of her purse till right at the end. She took forever looking through them. I don't mind coupon users, as I use them too, but it's annoying when the customer takes forever to find them.

This reminds me got a few money off coupons to use before the 17th...
  • I don't get embarrassed but I don't tend to use them often, maybe now and then if it's worth it but for example I don't think I would use say an 11p price guarantee voucher but then after I think "I get these all the time so over a year it would all add up and I should use them".

And in regards to checkout/till staff, 99% of the time they DO know how to put them through but they have to check them properly (in date, for the right product, not damaged, accepted in their store) as they are the ones who will pay if its not, and with hundreds of random coupons they probably only ever see once or twice I don't blame them for being careful the amount of random coupons I used to see (and that's from a customer and a previous sales assistant point of view).
