Hi, anyone able to help me with this one?
Recently bought a new house and using free dial up on my laptop until I get round to getting wireless broadband sorted out and dial up works no problem.
But now when I try to connect to AOL broadband at the other house (which was working ok before) I can connect to the Netgear wireless router but can't get any internet pages at all. The pc, which is wirelessly connected is ok, as is my wifes laptop. Only my laptop won't work, any ideas?
Also, anyone know if AOL lets you have broadband with two addresses on one account or do you have to have two accounts set up?

Not 100% sure on what you are saying here, maybe worth clarifying.
The laptop connects to the wireless router ok?
1. Is there another machine connected to the same router wired? If so, does it access the internet?
2. Is there another connected to it wirelessly? does this get to the internet?
If 1. above is yes, then you need to confirm wireless really is connected. Try Start - Run - cmd. Type ipconfig (press enter), what is your ip address?
If 1. is No. Then the router has not connected to the internet.
Try the above first then report back.0 -
It sounds like you have the dial up configured as default connection. when you try to connect with the wireless it can get the dial up so goes in to working off line.
change your browser connection properties to dial a connection when network is unavailable.
then go to file and remove the tick from work offline and it should work.0 -
Yeah, the laptop connects to the router wirelessly, signal strength excellent.
The pc is connected wirelessly with no cable but can access the internet.
Also my wifes laptop has signal strength excellent and she can access internet.
Only my laptop can not access internet (even though connected to the router) this has just happened after I started using dial up, it worked wirelessly before this.
I have just tried connecting to the local library wireless connection and still can't get access!0 -
See Little John's post above, this is the likely problem.
Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections0 -
Thanks, dial up is default connection when I look, I've changed the settings, what do you mean by 'then go to file and remove the tick from work offline'?0

In Internet Explorer, click the file menu and you may notice a tick next to work offline. If there isnt a tick there then that is fine.0 -
I see what you mean! Had a look and no tick. I must be getting tired!
Thanks Wonga and Little John, I will try and connect at my other house tomorrow and will report back to tell you if it worked or not.
Thanks again and have a good night.0 -

I'm off to bed now, GOOD LUCK0 -
If you have been on the internet since you were there as it had a connection it will have gone from working off line to online as it found the dial up connection available.
When you connect to the wireless router as you have changed the settings in internet explorer it won't go offline if it can find another connection.0
