BTW - What are gym pants? I suspect you are talking Scottish. :pTranslation please. ;)

    :rotfl:

They are just plain black trouser things all the kids use for gym. No shorts now you're in secondary school you know. :D

Not leggings and not jogging bottoms and not the kind of wide leg casual leisure wear things either.

Daughter's last ones were Nike and had a soft 'knitted' cuff at the bottom of the leg (safer than wider leg versions for gym and running). They were pull on soft feel material. Nowt unusual or special, honest. :D

I LOVE Sports Direct, but I usually end up ordering online after a trip in to check sizes because they never seem to have exactly the right combination of size + colour.

The kids both get their school shoes there, a Karrimor trainer type shoe in black leather (black suede for DD) called Summit. The children's version is only £11 or so, the style is fine for our school uniform policy (shoes must be black or mostly black, no obvious logos), they are comfortable, durable, non slip, supportive for the feet, look fine with trousers for girls and you can get them up to a size 15(!), though DS is only a 13 (mans 13) atm. I've got one kid with fat feet and one kid with skinny feet, I've got totally disillusioned with Clarks and Startrite shoes for both of them, especially the girls' shoes which aren't half as durable as boys shoes. Sports Direct has been an absolute godsend for affordable school shoes, plus things like hiking boots.

You can also get really excellent value sports kit, like proper sports swimsuits, for buttons compared to buying in the usual schoolwear shops.

It may look a mess, I agree, and half the stuff is tat but there's some absolute bargains in there if you're prepared to look a bit. The website is a lot easier to navigate, though still too much tat!

I'm doing the school shoe shopping tomorrow with DD and dreading it! She has really narrow, shallow feet with the skinniest little ankles!

We got home and lo and behold, they are the identical shoe to the one she has been wearing for the last year.......and they are a half size smaller! :o
:rotfl: I once did that too, after that I ALWAYS checked the size in the 'old' shoe in the shop and told the assistant what it was.

Clearly there is a whole world of childrenswear I never encountered: I'd call them tracksuit bottoms or jog bottoms, and DS1 lived in them (when out of school uniform) until well after graduation. Now the scruffpot wears jeans.

BTW, I often went to Brantanos once the boys were old enough to say whether or not shoes fitted, this has clearly confused DS2 who has just bought new shoes and was expecting to find pairs on the shelves, try them on, pay and leave. He had to ask staff to bring him pairs!!!
