In our house the dust on the wooden floors is known as dog tumble weed ;):o The dust gets all mixed up with dog hair and just rolls around until it's vacuumed up :o:rotfl:

On the subject of dust I once saw a TV program that said if you left the dust alone after three years it wouldn't get any worse .....but personally have never tried it

Wasn't that Quentin Crisp? And 4 years, not 3.

It's possible I HAVE tried this, but I wouldn't want to incriminate myself now, would I? :rotfl:

I am ashamed to admit that upon reading this, I have tried to remember the last time I pulled my bed out to dust/hoover behind it. The only time I can honestly remember was after a pillow fight when my boyfriend accidentally knocked a book off the side table, and complained about the dust on it.

I broke up with him in 2010.

It is longer ago than that since we did our bedroom 'properly'.

DH has done his side of the bed tonight. I don't think he's made any archaeological discoveries.

Maybe we'd better be merged into that ...

Next week, we are having the outside windows painted.

In order to do a proper job, they need access to the windows from inside, so they can open them and close them again rather than painting them shut.

This means I have to take down all my net curtains, clear all my windowsills, and clear a path to all windowsills.

I have had to send DH up the stepladder to do this, as I felt I might fall off. This has not helped his breathing, which was already a bit flaky from all the other dusting he's been doing.

I am not going to clean all the windowsills, because they will only get mucky again. But I will have to do it before I re-hang the nets ... and I might even clean the windows first too!

Our bed gets vacuumed underneath once every 4-6 months or so. I'd probably do it more often but I need help moving it. Its amazing how much dust collects under the bed as the castors lift the bed an inch or so off the carpet. I did think about taking the castors off so the bed would sit on the carpet but if I did that, I doubt if I could move the bed at all then. I come up with the brightest of ideas (not).

I would definitely take the castors off! then you have a 'platform bed'! (mirrors on the ceiling optional).
no space = no dust = simples!

If I do that I might as well do away with the divan too .

Whilst I am of the opinion that I won't ever be on my death bed wishing I'd done more dusting, I will be on my death bed knowing that ...

... there's no dust under you. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust and all that.
    Better is good enough.

Unless you've got a health problem made worse by dust or dust mites, why worry about what's behind cupboards and other heavy furniture?

You can't see it; it's not doing you any harm. It'll get hoovered up when the furniture has to be moved for some other reason.

If you (or your DH :o) do have a problem made worse by dust or dust mites, then I suspect you either have to do it very frequently, or very rarely.

As you can tell, we do it very rarely. I think that helps build up DH's tolerance levels, but when they are severely challenged as they have been this last couple of weeks, it's a bit of an issue.

Anyway, I can now see any dust to either side of the bed, which I couldn't before. We'll see if that helps.
