Deterring the dust ...

I am taking a break from cleaning a corner of my bedroom, and I am not going to tell you how old some of the paperwork I have found is because it would be just too too embarrassing.
When I am done, we are moving a small chest of drawers into that corner so I can keep my gubbins out of sight. I don't know how close to the corner we're going with it, hopefully leaving a gap to get the vac cleaner dusting head down.
However, is it worth wiping the skirting board in that corner with a tumble drier sheet in a (probably vain) effort to reduce the amount of dust accumulating there?
Back to the vacuum cleaner. The dangerously heaped pile of books is next, and praying my old teddy bears don't disintegrate when I dust them! :rotfl:

The teddy bears have survived, although one needs new footpads (I think he has for some time) and I'm going to try the tumble drier sheet thing anyway. Watch This Space ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

From my experience the dust will gather anyway. I have wooden floors and so no carpets/rugs for the dust to get trapped in, so the dust likes to waft under and behind furniture, find an army of old dust and have a bit of a dust party (it breeds like rabbits). I try and leave space to Hoover down the sides of things but it's not always doable, so those things get pulled out every few months to get into all the nooks and crannies. The only think I can't move is my wardrobe, so it's probably got a whole dust metropolis thing going on."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

Dust Bunnies thrive in my house, especially under the bed and behind things I can't get the vacuum cleaner to. I have wooden floors and three cats.
I am glad the Teddies survived their cleaning. See they don't mind the dust..they never complained to you.
Now you have done your house, will you come and do mine?0 -

I have yet to sort out all the stuff on the bed - most to go to charity shop, some to file - and get the sheets off.
DH started this corner last week so he could move a filing cabinet out of the bedroom, and we can move the bed to have space each side between bed and the furniture to each side (you know, the thing he puts your tea on each morning). I must go and finish it now ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
SS, You have done your house.....believe a corner is progress and to me an achievement. Teddies are a definite priority when you dust, after all they are your very best friends..
This reminds I have to evict a spider in the morning, i noticed a lovely web between the dresser and the wall this morning.
Think of it this way, after you die, who cares if you dusted or not?
You are doing well, though sorting through things and stuff for the Charity Shop. I had better get my washing off the line as it is nearly 9pm..0 -
I guess I could say we've done 1/3 of the bedroom, half if you were being very generous or intended NOT to do the built in cupboard and / or the ensuite.
How do people do this every week? Because surely, if you don't move the bed so you can vacuum behind and under ALL of it, and wipe over the skirting boards, and dust the picture rails, and de-cobweb the corners of the ceiling (which are very high!) it gets into this state again, quite soon?

Our bed gets vacuumed underneath once every 4-6 months or so. I'd probably do it more often but I need help moving it. Its amazing how much dust collects under the bed as the castors lift the bed an inch or so off the carpet. I did think about taking the castors off so the bed would sit on the carpet but if I did that, I doubt if I could move the bed at all then. I come up with the brightest of ideas (not). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I Hoover under my bed every few days.....I sound very saintly when I say that. But only because it's a bedstead frame so I can reach it all without having to pull it out. I've got a couple of old fashioned suitcases under there with sme of my fabric stash in, they just get pulled out and hoovered off too.
We have 5 cats, 2 of them are longhaired so the fur does spread well.
We don't call them dust bunnies here, they're known as "ghost poo" - normally a white /grey ball of ectoplasmic fluff with bits of black fluff amongst them......they roll out from under the sofa as though freshly deposited by a ghost.
Whilst I am of the opinion that I won't ever be on my death bed wishing I'd done more dusting, I will be on my death bed knowing that I did enough to make me house proud."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Actually, we could swap with the spare bed, maybe, maybe ...
Decisions, decisions ...
Mind you, it would NOT be true to say that I vacuum every few days. As someone noted on another thread, it's the perfectionist in me: I haven't got time or energy to do a proper job, so I don't do it at all.
I remember at ante-natal classes though, the midwife said we shouldn't be carrying the vacuum cleaner up and downstairs, so we should just do upstairs and downstairs on alternate days rather than every day, and get our husbands (no, not partners!) to carry the thing up and down for us. There were a few raised eyebrows to that, at the assumption that we'd all been vacuuming the whole house every day!Whilst I am of the opinion that I won't ever be on my death bed wishing I'd done more dusting, I will be on my death bed knowing that I did enough to make me house proud.Signature removed for peace of mind0
