I'm having a similar problem but with William hills with draw 650 from my account.
After 2weeks realised money not been put into my bank checked my account and money was withdraw on a old debit card which had been stopped about 3yrs ago called WH who gave me a ARN number and said the bank would be able to sort this out, when calling the bank they say there's no card number with the Last four digits with my name on Which there must be as William hill have taken money of it,
Any help given will be much appreciated

Debit cards can be purged from a bank's systems and if that has happened then a refund would be returned to the originator as the bank would not have a customer record to match that card number to.

Do Visa link the card number to a bank only or to a bank account?

I don't understand what they allegedly say - this makes absolutely no sense to me.
Either quote them correctly or explain your understanding of this.

What they said was they could not find that card number on there system
The debit card was lost about 3 yrs ago and canceled by me
Didn't relies I still had it on my William hill account as all withdrawals went on my new card.except this one. Long winded I know but being deslix is hard to explain

How long would this take to go back to the originator? Ruff guess

It would happen almost straight away. Banks can set up their systems to automatically raise a charge back when a transaction comes through on a card that isn't held on their system any longer.

Visa recognise which bank the card belongs to by the first 6 digits of the card number, it i then down to the card issuer to match that card to a customer's account.
  • Just like to say thankŷou for all your replys on the subject above,
Money was paid back into my William hill account on the 8th jan

By the look of it bank refunded money back to the originator and then they transfered money back into my account took 8weeks to sort out

    Happy with the outcome
