whilst generally I'm against plumbers & wires I have though any plumber could identify & repair a failed element0

how many sparks have a immersion box spanner & more importantly take one out without damaging the cylinderI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Exactly! And how many plumbers have an continuity and insulation resistance tester so can test if the element is faulty without having to take it out of the tank?!
Electrician is the first port of call, but then might need a plumber0 -
 If a plumber is unable to electrically test and change an Immersion heater these days, or the stat, without having a sparks to do the electrical connection, then he is NOT MUCH of a plumber
An hours work with the right tools if it a top mounted immersion, but if its a wiring fault that may be a different story, however, it is unlikelySignature removed0 -
You missed my point (or maybe I didn't make it very well!) - an electrician would be able to diagnose if there was a fault with an existing element without having to take it out...
I know quite a few plumbers and none have continuity and Insulation resistance testers... do you???0 -

So should a good plumberIts really NOT as complicated as needing to go to extremes, unless of course you as an electrician want more work
The cost of a new Immersion and stat is for sure going to be cheaper than an hour of an electricians labour to diagnose, AND THEN a plumbers to fit on top of thatSignature removed0 -
Whether a sparks, plumber or general handyman; he just changed the whole element.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

im a sparks and ive always changed elements. i keep getting call outs to immersions not working due to cables cooking in there terminals as they have been poorly terminated my advice is to call a reputable electrician and ask if they will change the immersion or stat as required. i carry an immersion spanner hose and a selection of stats for various elements. so some of the trades are more helpful than others. if in doubt use check a trade and at least they have a reputation to protect. hope this helps0
