All of the above (apart from Diary of a Wimpy Kid personally, I find this a very disrespectfully written book, and not the attitude I would like my son to be reading about and being influenced by)
My son loved reading the Famous 5 and Secret 7 books and the Adventure series. He then moved on to Helen Moss's books which are very much written in a similar way but more modern references.0 -

I'd started on the discworld by that age, and still love them, there's no sex and little violence but Terry Pratchett also has the Johnny something series which I loved, especially ' Only You can save mankind'
The Tiffany Aching books are discworld aimed at a younger audience but I found them to be quite dark
Neil Gaiman has a few children's books as well- the graveyard book is great
Hmm can you tell I like fantasy...Little Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6
Completed on house September 2013
Got Married April 20110 -
At that age my son started liking and still does aged 13 anything by Rick Riordan, who wrote the Percy Jackson series but has written other series books since.
He also liked some books by Ali Sparks and Stitch by Simon Mayo.
Son says he likes stories about children who have 'super powers'
Diary of a wimpy kid books are the only books where I've preferred the films - though both kids have liked them.0 -
Already some greats suggested here. I'll add:
H.I.V.E. by Mark Walden.
History Keepers
Ranger Apprentice series
Charlie Bone series
Inkheart series
Anything by Rick Riordan - Kane Chronicles particularly good and Percy Jackson obviously.
Young sherlock holmes
Hank Zipzer by Henry Winkler (yes - the Fonz!)
Artemis Fowl Eowin Colfer
Big Nate
Edwin Spencer - JD Irwin
Depending on emotional age depends on what I'd recommend any further - some books can get quite dark for a nearly 10 year old...knowing my son, he has only read to HP 2 as emotionally I'm not happy with him exploring the themes which come up at this point in his life. He's quite content to wait until he's older to read the rest. Same for Alex Rider - Stormbreaker - yes. Rest of the series - not just yet son.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Phillip Pullman and Chris Ryan books as well as the Harry Potter book is what my eldest was reading around that age.0
